Rock Auto AC kit.
Has anyone tried one? My AC compressor bearing is bad and the AC hasn't worked since I've owned the car. What else might I need? I was planning on fixing it myself and then taking it out to get recharged. Kit is FOUR SEASONS Part # TSR0753. Thanks.

Re: Rock Auto AC kit.
I work for Four Seasons so I might be a bit biased, but you will be happy with a remanufactured compressor. We manufacture new pistons in house and replace 100% of them in the radial compressors. The purpose of the TSR0753 kit is to ensure that you replace the accumulator and the orifice tube.
Make sure you flush the evaporator and the condenser really well. On cars this age, it's advisable to replace the hoses as well since they have surely deteriorated after all those years. The new hoses will be R134A compatible.
Good luck!

Ah, I wasn't aware Advance offered a kit. How did it work? Did you use 134? And where do I get one of those coupons??? Thanks.

No they dont sell it as a kit. But they offer each individual part. Go to www.retailmenot.com and type in advance auto. You can almost always get 40 off 100. Sometimes they put up 50 off. Works great on batteries too!
I went with the ford orifice tube, new compressor, new dryer, oil, and used 152a (keyboard cleaner).
Oh and I used 97% rubbing alcohol, but AC flush is probably a better idea. Worked for me though.
Autozone rents vac pumps and gauge manifolds btw.

Thanks for the advice, I take it you are running 134 right? Does it cool the interior well? I have had some HVAC guys tell me that an older system doesn't work as well when converted to the new refrigerant. Thanks again.

Well, I finally broke down and bought the entire kit from Rock Auto. I'm waiting for some better weather to install it.

Re: Rock Auto AC kit.
Take a good look at the condenser before you start tearing into the project. If a bunch of the fins are bent up, flattened, packed full of dead bugs, etc... Consider replacing it.
Replace all the O-rings in the system with new HBNR O-rings. Otherwise it's all for naught if one of them leaks all your frigerant.
Look at the hoses. If you bend them, and see cracks, yeah throw them out and get new ones, or have a shop with the proper tools crimp in new hose.
