Re: Coolant around thermostat housing

The intake gasket can blow through. The bolts do not extend into coolant passages. No need to make two threads on the same issue.

You can set the new housing on a flat surface and shine a light at the base on the far side preferably in the dark. If you can see light shining under it than either get a different one or file it flat.

Use a very fine sand paper on both the manifold and the base of the housing and clean it off really well.

Thread the bolts into the manifold without the housing to see if they are going in far enough to pull it down nice and tight.

Use a paper "Fel-Pro" gasket and if you want a "small" dab of high temp "RTV" black gasket maker on the bolt threads.

Last resort would be to double the gasket.

The holes that the bolts go into can strip easily.

I have had to use "hela-coil" on more than one so be careful.

The thermostat housing isn't chrome, is it? I've seen a LOT of these leak. You can try flattening the bottom (gasket surface) yourself, or have a machine shop touch it up.

So no one thinks it's a loose bolt or an intake gasket or water pump gasket or throttle body hose everybody thinks that's my new thermostat housing with the second gasket already

Tpi intakes pit around the coolant ports. You might want to put a thin film of liquid teflon or rtv around both sides of the intake gasket.
