I picked up a pair of barbed right angled fittings (5/8" and 3/4") and installed them on the heater core's inlet/outlet tubes. This allowed me to direct the heater hoses to the inner fender and off of the rocker covers. If one was so inclined, the hoses could be extended to travel "under" the fender and then make the turn towards the engine behind the coolant overflow bottle. Still visible of course but largely out of sight.
Only onto the inner fender but not through the gap between inner and outer. I used one of studs for the strut mount as a means to attach a clamp to hold things in place. Those right angles fittings are needed though otherwise the sweep of the hoses is too wide to be able to tuck things in tight.
These pics will give you an idea. If you wanted to, the hoses could probably follow the heater box to the inner fender, around the strut mount and get to the engine from there.

I think the intake manifold to under the serpentine bracket is the hose from a 2000-ish s10... and the down from the radiator is Buick Lesabre. The hard lines are just aluminum tube from Rural King I bent by hand.
I just bought a bunch of various make/model molded hoses from rockauto close to what I thought would work for what I wanted, and used what I needed.
Mostly 4th gen heater lines, cut to fit.The heater core side hoses & about 2-3" of the hard lines are 4th gen, some of the bends are 4th gen also. The straight sections are from various GM cars. The rubber elbows are again 4th gen. With gates power grip clamps to secure them.
I used the steel heater lines from a 85/85 (?) MPFI V6 when I swapped to LT1,...... I cut them short so they fit the way I wanted them too.
Had to snake them around a bit to accommodate the thirdgen Oil Cooler and the LT1 Water pump,.... but it's a lot better than running them over the top from front to back !
Thats what i wanted to use originally, but everything i found was rotted beyond use.I stumbled onto the 4th gen lines by default thinking they'd be less rusted.
Although I will be running a vintage air you could still do a bulkhead style fitting. DSE used some compression fittings from Aeroflow to attach their lines to a heater core.

Shifty this yers or DSE's? In either case, pretty nice....
