other great junkyard fans??
There must be other cooling fans that will work great for our third gens other then the ford Taurus fan. The Taurus fans will be harder and harder to find as time goes on and we will need to use something else. I have looked for a second Taurus fan to have on stand by for when the one I have goes bad, what junkyard fan do you know of that puts out good CFM's

Take a look at the 4th gen fan shroud set up. Fans are the same part number, and look physically the same, but they blow a good bit harder. And the shroud helps them be more efficient. Takes minimal tweaking and cutting some plastic on the shroud and radiator cover to make it fit. Took me about an hour. Major improvement.

Re: other great junkyard fans??
It doesn't just have to be a Taurus fan; Ford used the same basic design with shroud changes on Thunderbirds, Mustangs (I have a 2000 Mustang GT fan on my bird), Crown Vics, and all of their Lincoln/ Mercury counterparts.
If you want to keep it GM, try the dual fan setup from a late '00s Malibu or Impala. I used a Malibu setup on my girl's 'bird; it will fit really easy IF you have the full-width radiator. Her car is an '89 with a V6, so it had the narrower radiator which caused a bunch of fitment issues. Read about it here: https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/cool...tallation.html
Best of all with that one is that the fans plug right up to the car's wiring harness.
Take a measuring tape to your local junk yard one of these days, and see what will fit your car.

I'm a huge fan of the 98-02 Toyota Corolla fans I mounted on my 1985 because it was a perfect fit (I did have to fabricate new upper and lower mounts though). Here is the link to install thread:

Although as stated in the above link, I wouldn't buy them used at a junk yard again because Ebay sells brand new ones for just a little more (about $64 right now). I actually ordered a brand new one off Ebay when they were $55 and its stored in my shop as a backup for when the junk yard one wears out.

On my 83 Z28 I used a pair of Lexus LS400 dual pusher fans mounted ahead of the condenser. Had to trim 2 tabs off of them, otherwise fit perfect and they moved a TON of air. They pretty much cover the entire condenser, and in conjunction with my electric single fan on the back kept my 327 cool, even in south Texas summer in stop n go traffic.

Unbelievably, the dual fans and shroud from a '04 VW beetle is an almost perfect fit in size, has dual speed fans, and is easily adapter to the original single fan mount. They are identical to the '05 GTO fans, and can be wired the same way using the ECM triggers.

I used 12" zip ties and the existing brackets on the Lexus fans. Kept the single fan on the backside of the radiator, so essentially the entire surface area was covered between all three. Watching the needle on the temp gauge drop immediately when all three fans powered up was always entertaining!
Re: other great junkyard fans??
I will be using Dodge Intrepid Fans on 86 IROC. They move alot of air. Dual fan, dual speed. I have them in my Supercharged LS C10 Pulling air through AC Condensor, Intercooler and Radiator. AC is cold, intake air is good, water temp good.

Re: other great junkyard fans??
If you want max airflow, I personally know an engineer on a Nascar team that tested electric fans to find the most efficient ones. He said stock Mecedes Benz fans pulled the most air for their size.
I have no idea if any would fit our cars, but there you go.

Another fan used in custom cars is Lincoln Mrk 8 fans. They are large, move alot of air and have 2 speeds. Don't know if they fit Camaros.
