Hello,
I have an 1984 Camaro Z28 with a 305 in it. (Carb in case you couldn't tell)
I just purchased this car and I notice that the temperature gauge stays at the bottom. I do not believe it is stuck at all I just believe it is not getting the correct temperature.
Could someone give some ideas on what could be causing that? Also some ideas on how to repair it? I am thinking it is the sensor but I do not know where that would be.

Wire is unplugged.

Plug it back in.

Wire is dark green. Sending unit (not [mrspock]SEN-SORE[/mrspock]) is between the #1 & #3 spark plugs.

Temperature gauge is pegged...was working before I took it in to have some mechanical components replaced and realigned. Comes back out, Temp gauge isn't working.

Fixed head broken wire (Dark Green) / replaced head sensor it was an odd one...not your standard sensor, (This one has a prong) only one offered. reconfigured wire to accept the prong / ran...still not fixed. Thoughts?

 

Probably the wrong "sensor". Which if you asked for that word at the counter, is why you got the wrong thing... it's not called a "sensor", it's a sending unit. Sometimes called a "switch" although strictly speaking that word only applies to the thing that works a 1D10T light.

With the key on, disconnect the green wire; gauge should go to 0. Ground the green wire; gauge should go to max. If all that happens, the gauge and wiring are good, and the only thing left is the sending unit.

I probably said it the wrong way in my post. That's the critter I have in there. I verified the part number with the box. I'll try the ground idea and see what's going on.

Grounding the wire perfectly checked the operation of the gauge. After 3 separate returns, I went with Standard temperature control. P/N TS76. I also reset the computer in order to cancel out any other inputs. Works like a champ. Glad I listened to Sofakingdom. The new instrument panel would've set me back about 925.00

The computer has nothing to do with your Temp gauge...
