Radiator upgrade

Was looking at the Be Cool (sku 83315) and Wizard Cooling (sku 1-951-202BL ) direct fit kits, has anyone tried one of these or recommend one over the other? My application would be for my 305/700r4 to use as well for my planned LS3/4l65e down the line and a daily driver looking to improve and rid of any overheating issues at the same time. Thanks for any advice and i will be posting progress pics and parts comparisons when i decide and get the parts.

Re: Radiator upgrade

Cant comment on Wizard, but ive had a BeCool unit for some 17+ years, two actually. I used the first one on my original 305/700r til the rad sprung a leak. Being frugal i replaced it with a champion unit which worked very well, but i got a damn good deal on a second becool rad a couple years ago and switched back. This time with my new eng/trans (erod/4L65e). Both brands actually work fine, but neither is a direct drop in. With the proper mods i was able "drop" both types in the same spot w/out cutting the OE single fan shroud.

that is the exact thing i will be doing is the erod and 4l65e . what modifications did you have to adjust for on the stock setup in the radiator area? i was looking at the hawks upper bracket mount they have and some of the lower isolator rubber mounts . Hope its okay to ask your for details on your setup?

Re: Radiator upgrade

Sure ask away. Becool sells a extension plate for the upper shroud, probably what the hawks piece does too. Anyway, i didnt care for that plate, it allows you to use the shroud so it reaches the rad since becool moves it so far from the core support.
Becool offsets the upper mounts on the rad. This keeps the shroud from reaching w/out the plate. What i did instead was cut off the mount and set it directly over the radiator. I also trimmed the upper/lower isolators. Plus the rubber isolator between the condensor/rad. This last one is what allowed my stock shroud the bolt to the core support and attach to the rad as well. The lower mount on the rad is fine as is, so no cutting on that. I think i trimmed away some steel on the core support cause the corners on the rad tanks were getting to close for comfort, but i might have been fine without trimming anyway.

FWIW. With the exception of the upper mounts on the rad. This is basically the same issues i had with champions unit as well.

Right now i am going to be replacing all the A/C components and the heater core possibly and wondering if ill need anything for the condenser or an external tran cooler in the future for the erod ?

Re: Radiator upgrade

I kept my OE condenser, if you buy a direct replacement you should be ok. Im using the radiator trans cooler along with a small B&M trans cooler which is routed inline after the radiator. I also installed a small motorcycle cooling fan thats triggered by a temp sensor on the B&M part. I replaced my a/c components with the exception of the condenser. Probably shoulda done that one too.

Re: Radiator upgrade

Most people are unaware that there is actually a difference between "Direct Fit", and "Exact Fit". Direct Fit often requires at least a slight modification of some kind. I have no personal experience with Be Cool, but they have a reputation for being among the best.
I have a Griffin Exact Fit with 1-1/2" tubes...

oh wow that sounds pretty neat on the motorcycle cooling fan for the trans cooler 😎 ill have to look into that when i get thisbplan situated. i took some pictures of what i have for the radiator as i still get lost when it comes to identifying certain things i havent touched. So bear with me lol.

Re: Radiator upgrade

This is the isolator thats between the rad/cond.I trimmed it back to the yellow line. The red arrow points to the sheet metal part i trimmed at the blue line

This is the B&M fan, i think its from a R6, but they're all the same mostly.
