My compressor has leaked at the casing seam ever since I've owned this car, and I'd like to finally get it working. I see the compressor, dryer, orifice tube, evap, and condenser on Rock Auto, but it seems there are no new hoses.

It looks like I need GM part # 10054996 but every site says 'discontinued'. Is there no source for new hoses?

I do see a shop listed near me that can custom make hoses, so I guess that may be the only option.

 

Was going to suggest a rebuilder. That would keep you closer to the factory look if that is important. I wonder if they can even rebuild the foam things around the hoses - guessing that foam is for vibration/mounting, really not sure.

 

I took my hoses to a shop and the guy said it would be tough since there's a 90 degree bend right next to where the crimp goes (where it wraps around the back side of the compressor). I reinstalled them and pulled a vacuum, but could only get -25 and it went back to zero in about 10 minutes. The only used parts left are the hoses and evaporator (thoroughly flushed). I used new green o-rings at every connection and made sure they were oiled.

I think I'm just going to buy a leak detector from harbor freight and charge it up a little to try to find the leak.

 

I did find this website which looks interesting, but it says you need at least 1" of straight tubing to work with. It would be close.

Sounds like a good idea, your leak may be coming from somewhere completely different than what you suspect.

 

Throw in a can of refrigerant with dye in it and trace it down with a UV light. You will immediately be able to see where it is leaking. You can make your own hoses too with a crimper kit off Amazon (I think I paid $150). I went this route since no one touches AC hoses anymore.

 

Recently bought one myself. There are multiple GM ac manifold replacement options to custom fabricate hoses.

I put in a little refrigerant and used a leak detector. The hoses seemed fine.

my leaks seems to be coming from the smaller hard line. Not sure yet if there's a pinhole or if the fan switch is leaking.

 

The specific 85-87 hoses aren't made. they only make the 82-84 which go on top the radiator shroud....and then the pass side serpentine setup for 88-92

They also make a V6 hose which is CLOSE to the 85-87 TPI but the part that bolts to the compressor is slightly different with the aluminum pipe part coming I believe up rather than down on the TPI. You could maybe see if thse are useable if you really need to find hoses.

 

yeah the only new hoses I could find available was for V6 models. I ended up reusing my old ones (flushed out of course). I ran a leak detector all over them and it didn't detect anything so hopefully they'll hold up for awhile.
