LS1/ LT-1 dual fan swap

Hi all, I have an 89 Camaro with the factory dual fan set up. Need some more CFMs since my dual fans right now aren’t cutting it. I currently have a champion 3 core rad and was looking for a fan conversion that would require a ton of modifications to my wiring.

I was reading that the fans out of the 4th f body are pretty cheap and pull almost double the CFMs than my current factory fans. I’m okay with creating some custom metal brackets and modifying the shroud to secure the fans in place. But what else needs to be done on the wiring side of things to get these to operate safely??

I already have a 140amp alternator, everything else in terms of the wiring is factory. Do I need to upgrade the fan relays from 30amp to a 40 or 50amp? Someone correct me if I’m wrong but I believe the 4th gen f body fans use slightly more amps between like 18-25amp and close to 40 when they first start up.

If you already have factory dual fans, then the wiring is identical

The fan motors are the same from 3rd to 4th gen fans and most late 90's GM vehicles. Current wiring is plenty
Being newer motors, the startup amp draw should be a little less as they tend to increase over time

They work great! many ways to install them. FYI the LT1 fans are a bit thicker

good to know! Did you have to change out the pigtails on either end? I just ordered myself the fans and should be here tomorrow so I guess I will know more then. I did see a guy in another thread make some sweet metal brackets to hold the fans in place the bolted to the topside of the rad. Might do the same for mine.

Same connectors on GM fans from the 80's to mid 2000's
If the pigtail reaches, it plugs in and works the same

Yup, plug and play unless you have a single fan like I did.... then you need to wire in a secondary fan. I have mine set up to activate at the same time vs the factory one side on then the other sideon later etc...
