Win ALDL Problems!

Hey guys.

I am a newbie to auto-electronics and DFI etc. so I am just starting to learn. I have helped out a lot on the board so hope that you guys can excuse me if there are some "newby" type questions okay?

Alright so my friend is an electronics certified guy from college... we decide to try Win ALDL on my 92 Camaro Z28 5.7 TPI. We make the cable etc. everything is great, install win ALDL on the laptop. We go to make the connections to the ALDL on the car and the terminal you have to put the data connection on to... the second from the left of the top row... well there is NO CONNECTOR inside of it! What do I do? It's only flashing code 12 (no codes stored)...

Car runs great. Was just rebuilt at a reputable shop. However this car does have some strange wiring in it from the previous owner...

What should I do? where do I start? Could I hardwire it into the PCM?

Any help would be AWESOMe guys... I want to start learning this sort of stuff, at least the basics so I can tune/monitor my engine
Garett

The 92 Camaro is too new for WinALDL.
Craig Moates software should work.

damm... do you think WinALDL will soon be available for 90-92's?

oh and is it normal for me not to have a pin inside the connector of my ALDL (second terminal from the left, top row) ?

Man his cable wiring looks complicated... I think I'll pass :/

You didn't look at that site very well. He has several interfaces and one of them is the two transistor deal that works very well and is very simple. And yes, the ALDL will have missing plugs in the connector. All you need from the ALDL is the "M" wire. "A" is ground and you can get that from anywhere. You could get a cig lighter adapter and get 12v and ground from there for the interface. Or wire in 12v to the ALDL and have all three wires coming from there. Your choice. Lots of folks go straight to the ecm for the wires and put their own connector instead of bothering with the ALDL connector. That way the ALDL is left alone for other diagnostic tools.

You have a 8192 baud ECM and WinALDL can only read 160 baud data.
