Need help with a ECM.

I am installing a 350 into my 89 RS that had a 305.

My car has power everything.

I need to find what ECM I am going to need to run this on my car. (I would need a ECM out of a truck, I just need the number.)

should be able to just change the chip, unless you are using a different type of fule delivery/induction.

Tamarac?

Are you a member of SFFBA.net?

Anyway, what would I have to do to get a chip for it to work?

I went to a performance place, and they pretty much told me that they wont do it for me. I also dont want to spend $400 on a chip, that I will pull when I swap to TPI.

i think that if you don't modify the chip it will run, but not optimaly.

i'm a member of the website.

::edit::
you might be able to swap out the chip from the truck ecm you got the engine out of, but then you will have to make sure both systems are identical. not sure if they are. the $400 you spend in equipment could be used again to modify the TPI chip.

your car previously had tbi right? i think you need a new ecm (dont quote me on this though!) i think one from a truck would work fine... your best deal would probably be to check on ebay...

You'll want to pull your's down and take a look at it.
The best two to use for TBIs are the 1228746, or the 1227747.
The 8746 being a ca application, and the 747 truck.

The whole deal with the truck is that it was the first one that was publically hac'd. So there are more people familiar with it the the other. Electrically other then a Air Temp sensor they are the same.

For way less then $400 you can buy all the stuff to do your own programming.

The ECM is different TBI to TPI. I can get the numbers but I don’t have them handy. As for the EPROM being edited contact this guy he does it for really cheap and is knowledgeable on what you will need to do.

Ugg..

Will it run? Yeah, and perhaps a little bit lean. Can you run the Chip from the truck TBI? Maybe?

If your serious about getting this thing working, start buying the prom equipment. You'll never get your fuel/timing right from junkyard ecm's.. ANd you may end up detonating the new motor.

The TBI ecm doesn't even need a memcal adapter, so you should
just need a burner, and a few blank flash chips.

Take a look at the truck bin ($42) and see where the fuel/timing
tables are. My guess is timing is totally different (I think the vin E cars based at 0) and fuel. Import those tables to your car TBI
bin. That will be the bulk of the work, then use a 160 baud scanner to tune to BLM's and INT.

Is it work? Yeah but c'mon, do it right.

Are those ECM numbers year specific?
What I mean is will either one of those ECM's work on a 88TBI system?
