problems w/ed wright custom chip!
ok i just installed my stealthram and 24lb svo injectors and also installed my ed wright custom chip burnt for my specific combination.
the car started right up and idled with no problem once the timing was set at 12 degrees. i went over everything and made sure i had no coolant, vacuum, fuel leaks or unplugged connectors. and then test drove the car, as soon as i backed out of the shop i new it wasnt right, but i drove it a few miles and as soon as i pulled away the car bogged and hesitated and just drove like complete garbage at every rpm although smoothing out alittle here and there. but the car was not driveable by any means. if i come to a stop and rev it up it seems to sound ok but once under a load its terrible.
so i put the stock chip back in and the car is now driveable and runs ok. but is nowhere near optimal, theres no hesitation or bogging tho.
i havent put it on the scantool yet since its 4am here. does anybody have any ideas what they could have screwed up at fastchip?

They do warranty their work, so I assume you'll be contacting them today. Since its still not right even with the stock chip, sounds like its more than just a bad chip problem though. What kind of overlap and LSA does that cam give you? You sure you're getting enough vacumn to keep everything happy?

There is 90 million different reasons. Unless you have a scan tool, and a means of trying multiple setups with Ed, I don't see you getting your car tuned correctly any time soon.

i have put the car on the scan tool the other day and one thing i noticed was my 02 voltage was very low and not willing to cycle up and down to much...so im gonna swap a new one in and see what happens
but when i installed the custom chip at first i set the fuel pressure at 45 with the vacumm line off and the car would not drive at all, i could barely make it around the block. so i turned it up to 49, and then the car became driveable but had a lot of dropoffs throughout the power curve and still hesitated pretty bad. so i called them and they said to check the block learns to see if they're at 128 like they should be. will the lower fuel pressure they were at 144-160...with the higher fuel pressure they stayed at 128 constantly
and also the chip is setup for a 160 stat...it was an unusually cold day when i had the scan tool on it(39degrees) the coolant temp was staying between 150-155 and the car wouldnt go into closed loop...does anyone have any input on that?
they said 49psi should be plenty of fuel for my combo and they might need to add more fuel through the chip

49psi Actually sounds kinda high for a n/a motor running the sv0 injectors. I can't imagine you're fuel requirements are that high.
The injector pulse muse be super low to keep the duty cycle down.
The 160 stat is good for 85+ degree weather. If it was 39 out, then yeah your car might not ever make it into closed loop.

yeah i think 49psi is quite high but the car could barely drive at 45psi. with the stock chip is runs way rich at 49psi obviously because of the 24lb svos...so im really not sur what the deal is with this chip
do you think maybe that bad 02sensor could have something to do with this problem
its been around the 60's lately in jersey and in a month should be in the 80's so thats what i went with the 160 for now

O2 is ignored in open-loop.
The reason it runs way rich is cuz the stock prom is set to 21.5lbs/hr injector constants, and assumes like 45PSI at wot.
The ed wright chip prolly has a low constant (higher injector)
so the duty cycle is not exceeded. So its prolly set to something like 27lbs/hr and meant for like 50psi.
Anyway, I'd replace the O2 just cuz. But until you enter closed loop, all bets are off with that.
Furthurmore, your playing with ed wrights black magic. You need to start tuning yourself, or you may never get it right.
This is a 1227165 ECM right?

i have been told u need to have at least 14 inches of vaccuum to make the ecm run properly. i would check it and see how many inches it pulls if its less than 14 then u need to get the dfi to run right. a little over 220 intake duration would be the limit to get at least 14 inches so i have been told depending on the setup. i put a 230 244 duration @ .50 cam in my 91 z and all the chip burning never helped a bit then when i went with dfi it solved all my probs.

No you need 14 inches of vacume for idle conditions and a few other tables to work in stock form in the chip. You can rescale to anything you want really...

isnt it maf? doesnt that mean it has no idea what the vacuum is? after all, you need a MAP to tell vacuum dont you?

The whole idea of computer friendly cams is kinda bogus..

Vacuum doesn't matter until you need a canister for your accessories.
I get 8-9 inches at idle and it runs fine.
Send the chip back to ed, you will have to send it to him several times to get it right.
