305---->350. need chip?
I have a 1984 Trans Am 305 HO (L69) with 700-R4 tranny with stock computer and chip. hopefully by winter, i will have a mild 350 in the car. Will i need to get an aftermarket chip for this, or will my stock one run fine? thanks for any help
The chip makes the primaries go full rich at WOT. You can do adjustments to the rich stop to allow more fuel to the primaries (under WOT) and raise the Master control soloniod (lean stop) a little to richen up the leanest condition the engine would see. Depending on how much healthier the 350 is than the 305, you will need a new hanger and / or metering rods for the secondary that will add enough fuel under heavy and wide open throttle conditions. Again, depending on how much healthier the engine is, you might need to adjust the TPS.
There is a pretty good tuning tech on this site and at www.montecarloss.com on the computer controlled carbs. Between the two tech articles at these two sites, you should have enough info to be able to tune it in,,,, without the need for a chip.

quick question, the computer controls the ignition, so do the 305 and 350 have the same firing order? I'm probably going to get a replacement distributor, is there a specific kind i should get, or will the direct replacement for a 305 work?
