'85 TPI ECM upgrade, "165" ECM only?

Must I use the "1227165" ECM or will another such as a "1227169" from a '86 Monte SS work? Any idea? Thanks, Randy

It is recommended that you upgrade with known ECMs. By known it is with ones that there is information available for them. The '165 and '730 are both canidates to be used for an upgrade. They are both used in Thirdgen f-body's. The '165 being a MAF based system and the '730 being a SD based system.

These two ECMs support a V8 PFI engine. ALong with any required smog equipment. They are both viable upgrade paths.

The 86 SS's I know were all CCC, computer controlled carbs, and those ecms won't work for EFI.

go to the DIY-PROM board and investigate the 1227730 or 730. It's the ecm used in the 90-91 v8 F Bods.

Re: '85 TPI ECM upgrade, "165" ECM only?

I am looking to replace stock ECM(w/MAF) so that my 1985 IROC 305 EFI can be programmed and use the EDBt 2 port.

ANyone know data about doing that?
