A4 chip but have M4

I have a 87 350 TBI (L05) truck with a 4spd. What would happen if I put the automatic chip in? Would it set a light? I would imagine it would run fine but figured I'd ask. Or would it not?

Sorry for not being 3rd gen specific but I would imagine the same would be true for a L03 A4 to a M5.

Thanks

Doubt the SES would set. It would run but a low speeds and idle it may not be 'just right'. Give it a try and see how it is. Shift light will come on (if trucks have them) whenever the ECM tries to lock up the TCC.
