ECM To Laptop..Help?

Hi guy's, just got my aldl cable, laptop and scanning software. It's an older laptop on 98 with the 9 pin d-connecter. The computers not recieving any info from the ecm, and I'm just about positive it's a laptop issue.

When I first hooked it up it said to disable docking by rebooting. I did. No longer getting errors, but none of the scanning software is detecting anything.

Ideas for me to try?

Thanks

Check that the serial port(s) is enabled. In both the BIOS setup and the WIN98 setup.

Well I've tried to get into the bios, but this computer is not letting me. It doesn't give the classic hit del or f1 etc to enter bios, but I hit just about everything I could think of for bios keys and it keeps booting straight into windows.

Also I'm not sure where to check inside windows to make sure serial ports are enabled. Com1 and lpt1 are enabled and installed, along with their infrared sides.

And under hardware profiles is shows undocked.

Also, I don't know if it has anything to do with it, but under pcmcia sockets in DM pcic pcmcia controller is disabled.

On some older model computers, you had to hit CTRL, ALT,ESC to get into the bios.

I'll try that. It's an old dell. I went to their website and it said f10 or del, but they didn't work, so I'll give that a try.

But if it's showing com1 and lpt1 in DM wouldn't that mean it is enabled?

Going to double check anyway....

Ok finaly got into the bios. You enter from windows, hitting function F1. Weird. Anywho, the serial port is installed on com1. Com1 has no irq conflicts in DM and is enabled.

Any other ideas to check?

No Com 2. I got it working with Datamaster. I had to adjust some settings inside the program. Now I just gotta see if I can get it to work with the others.

Anyone know if TTS makes one for the $58 mask?

Hey just in case someone might know, this is the docking msg I've been getting right before it GPF's.

"Windows could not change the configuration because the portable or docking station failed the request. To undock your laptop computer, shut down windows, and then undock your system."

Any ideas?
