just pulled ecm.. is it smart to get a non gm one..
i called auto zone and they got a different brand than Gm for their ECM,,
they said 100 bux.. plus core (or 140.00)
has anyone had bad experiences with on of these autozone or murrays ECMS..
its for an 86 trans am in chicagoland..
what the problems was is that the ecm would not stay running.. the 20A fuse would blow as soon as the key is turned.. when i put in a new fuse pop again.. then when i wasnt lookin my friend put a paperclip in the fuse slot and when i turned the key without knowing it blew up the paper clip after a second.. my alternator has also been overcharging. maybe the batterys sending too much juice.. im stumped.. i guess ill replace that ecm pending some feedback from my fellow third genners.. never had this problems in my other 3 birds.. now i gotta deal with it..
please reply

You have a dead short to ground on that circuit if it's blowing up paperclips. LOL, your friend had no reason to put in a paperclip.
The ECM is not your problem. Unplug the ECM and use a multimeter to see if that circuit is going to ground. The ECM, MAF Power Relay, MAF Burnoff Relay, Fuel Pump Relay, and Oil Pressure Switch are all on that circuit.

those are GM ecms they are just refurbished by whatever company is doing it. Thats why they want a core for it, they take yours and repair it if theres anything wrong with it.
