Jet Chip//Help!

Has anyone installed a chip from Jet Performance? I tried to put one in three weeks ago w/ no luck! The car started to bug out! So after work today I hope at a second attempt! I called them and they said it sounded like a connection problem. I asked my buddy who had a ford lightning w/ a chip and he said that he had to "scuff" the protective wax from the stock chip? Does that sound right? Please help if you can, I want to get this done right the "second time"!!!

Nothing to scrap.
For a 92 there's not to much to do, other then not bend a pin somehow when installing it.

My opinion of aftermarket chips isn't too high.

Don't quite know what this means. You may have gotten a bad chip.

Well...... I tried again last night w/ no luck! But check this out(i was furious!!!) I went to tighten the postive into my battery, and the nut/screw that goes in the side post snapped off in the battery! So now I have a good battery that's useless!!! Anyway, w/ the second attempt no luck. I called Jet, waited for about 15min. on hold, they have the absolute worst hold music, and every time I've called I've had to wait for at least 10minutes or more They just told me to try again, and call back that's when my battery incident happened! The loss of daylight set me back until today after work! I'll keep you posted! I think it could be a spark plug or something? I'll check those too!
As I start to accelerate it
feels like your in fith gear doing 30mph! No acceleration at all~ and the car sounds louder as well!!! Headache.....any ideas?

Take the battery out of the car, drill the bolt, and back it out with an EZ Out.

Then, put the stock chip back in, and return the JET chip.

Then, go to the DIY PROM forum, and read the sticky posts about how to burn your own chips. You'll get better results doing your own, and it can be done for less money than what you'll waste on aftermarket garbage.

Just my .02. Good luck!

The Jet chip is a stock chip. Except for a few minor, essentially unnoticeable tweaks.

If it's a stock chip, then why do they say to expect 18-20 horses on thier website? Just asking, thought it was a good idea for what was in my pocket at the time towards a performance mod?

In the old days, hucksters sold snake oil.
Nowadays some have taken to selling chips.

You'd be amazed at what really is being sold.

There are a few reputable guys out there, but they're few and far between. And you won't find them making outlandish claims of HP gains, or mass marketing their stuff.

Yeah, and people claim 10 hp off that stupid throttle body airfoil too.

Who's going to actually enforce that everything on the Internet is true?.

Sad, but true, folks do sometimes fudge the truth. Like run the one test at noon in Aug, and the other in Dec.. They may have just left that detail out.

Jet performance is not like a small company. Everyones heard of them, they've been around for awhile! My buddy had one in his stock lightning/think it was an 01/ and he ran 12.8 in the 1/4. He definatley noticed a difference w/ the chip. I've never heard anything bad about "JET". Has anyone???

Well, since you asked, I know of at least one TPI chip from them that had no changes from stock, except for the timing being advanced 4°. You could do that by twisting the distributor, so if you like the idea of paying $250 for the same effect, go right ahead.

I've also seen their LT1 stuff up close (no, not my car), and it's absolute garbage, IMHO.

I'm not that familiar with the Ford apps, but Lightnings are known to be responsive to aftermarket chips, which kinda suggests that Ford left something easy for them to find. I wouldn't take that as evidence of competence.

Slick50, Splitfire, and a bunch of other garbage has been around for years now too. The fact that a company has been successful financially only tells you that they've been making money, not necessarily making HP.

Sorry for the rant.

What was he running before the chip?

I've seen people put Hypercrap/Jet type chips in their cars and then come back and say "oh yeah, man. I noticed a difference. It feels way faster!" But the inner-workings of the chip revealed that not much changed from stock.

Bottom line is, the "placebo effect" shouldn't be ruled out.

I called Jet.....I'm sending them the chip and they're going to take a look to see if they notice anything! I did notice that the chip didn't make a "great" connection towards one end of the chip. I mentioned that to the guy. Kinda like the chip was put together a hair incorrectly!O we'll see what happens!!!! I'll keep ya's posted!
