Can't get jet chip to work right

I put a new set of plugs and wires in tonight because it was missing. That fixed the mis, so I decided to install the jet stage II chip that came with the car. I disco'd the battery, changed the chip, started it up and for a second it acted like it worked great. You could tell a slightly different idle from the engine. After about 15 seconds it started to idle like crap and started running pig rich. I disconnected the battery again for about 5 minutes trying to reset it. Again it started up but then switched to crappy mode. Also the "service engine soon" light came on. Car is stock 350tpi plus K&N and exhaust. Any ideas?

I put the stock chip back in and it runs great.

If the chip had major changes compared to the factory chip it will take a few for the ECM to Learn, Let the car idle with it for awhile and then if it seems like it is running ok, take it for a 20 min Ride.

But My bet is that the Chip Has Way too much Fuel programmed in since it is a aftermarket chip and Will seem like it is better when it is not.

Learn to Scan the car yourself and see what it is doing then Learn to burn you own Proms. Cost to start to burn you own proms is usually equivilent or less than a aftermarket Chip. Check out this article. https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/promintro.shtml

Sounds like there is a problem with the jet chip. If the stock one works well then use it instead.

If your SES light is working (key on check), is it blinking REALLY fast? If so, the chip is either damaged or installed improperly. This will cause what you're describing to me. An aftermarket chip almost NEVER touches the fuel maps. I have yet to see a chip for an OBDI car that does more than adjust the timing and PE afr (along with lower fan temps and small "felt" differences).

I know I know, have a custom one made. I'm going to try the jet chip again. I don't think I let it warm up enough to go into a closed loop. It's a free chip, so I might as well try again.

I've got a ZZ4 cam and ported heads ready to go in. I'll get a chip burnt after I get those on.

Yes the light works fine. The light doesn't come on until about 10 seconds after start. It stays on until I shut it off. I know it's installed properly. I've built computers for years and I know how to push componants into slots

I'll try again tonight

Does teh ecm return any error codes after the SES light illuminates? After the SES, shut down and check for error codes before resetting the computer. It sounds like somehting on that chip is causing a code to set.

Ya, why not, it's just an engine. Seems like kind of a cavilier attitude about something that's, kinda expensive. Gas washing a cylinder and lose the ring seal, could far outweigh the cost of a chip, IMO.
