accel dfi fuel map question
finally got my car on the road, but its really rich.when i start off in first gear a puff of black smoke comes out the tail pipe.my question is if i take 10% of fuel out across the entire map do u think that would be too much?or should i start out with taking out say 5 counts across the board?any help would be appreciated.

I been messin with DFI for the last 4 weeks and I had the same problem bottom end I was really rich, I would not dare take 10% off the entire map. I was at 12:1 at WOT when I took off 7.5 %

emtcee - You may want to start out by taking 4-5% out and work from there.
Project mentioned that he pulled out 7.5% and was 12.0-1 at wot. That is still pretty rich on a naturally aspirated motor.
You really need to get the car on the road and use the air/fuel ratio scale in the fuel map as your guide. This should get you pretty darn close for driveability. You can only read this while in closed loop. For full throttle, you will want to invest in to a stand alone wide band A/F monitor that can be clamped onto your exhaust. This was the only way for me to get my wot where I wanted it.
I believe Innovate Motorsports has a nice affordable unit.
Good luck!

thanks HiTech5, i took it out today and i took out 5 counts over the entire fuel map.its still rich though.at like 2000 rpm the a/f ratio is aproxx. 13.6:1.i would think that its still pretty rich.and @ 2800 rpm its likebetween 12.9:1 to 13.2:1.at those rpm's what do u guys think it should be?
Can anybody here send me their global calibration file, or point me into the direction were i can find one. I have a Gen VII, but cant get it the timing/fuel tables tuned right. Thanks! email galvinb@onid.orst.edu. Thanks

thanks hitech.i do understand that the surrounding cells have an effect on the cell that i change.the part that i'm having a little truoble with is if i change a single cell how do i know what to change the surronding cells to?like say the cell i change is 40 and change it to 38 then what should i change the cell on either side of it?say the cells on either side of 40 are 37 and 43(just an example).

I normally change the surrounding cells by the same amount. I do not know of an exact procedure.
I can tell you that making small moves is the best way proceed.
If it is rich across the board, make an overall adjustment.

thanks hitech.now i just have to figure out how many of the surounding cells to change.this stuff isn't as bad as i thought it was gonna be.i mean its not easy by ant stretch but when i first started reading the manual and the tuninig dfi book i was scared to death.as long as i play it safe i feel i should be o.k. the only thing is that it takes time to play around with.i actually like this stuff.i have always been a carb guy in the past.
