Custom EFI Setup
I am thinking about putting a extra Mini ITC computer in my car. Its the size of the stock ecm.
Are there any soft ware programs out there that can be run on windows(well hopefully linux since its more stable) and an adapter that can control spark and fuel as if the program was the actual ECM.
I've heard about it before but cant really remember.
It would be awesome if you could tune real time while driving your car.
Cheaper as well. the actual box is the main thing of those aftermarket systems, just the software. The harness shouldn't be too hard to fab up...
If i could i'd love to be able to turn TPI into SFI, so that each injector pulses when its supposed to like in the LS1. This greatly increases fuel economy.
Are there any setup's like this out there?

For about $180, you should be able to order a Megasquirt kit and a stimulator (test unit). You solder it all together. There is tuning software for Windows and Linux. The software is free.
I fabbed up my own harness and fuel system. This is in my '70 Chevelle. It runs better than ever. 406, Holley Stealth Ram, 234/244 .488/.510 cam http://www.msefi.com/viewtopic.php?t=7202

Go with the MegaSquirt ecm. I had it and ran it for 1.5 years. In my opinion (I can hear the flood gates opening now) Mega Squirt is easier to tune than a stock 730 or 165 ecm. But I have actually tuned both, so I am one of the few people who can actually say that. MS is making large strides. Ultra Mega Squirt is set to arrive before too long. With Sequential injection and a wideband with spark control, WOW! All for less than the competition. The processor speed in MS is unreal too. I could drive it and make changes to the VE cell I was in while I was driving it without one hickup.

Megasquirt? hmm...
sounds like a very cool idea.
Do you have to buid your own, i've never actually built a board to control an ECM. I'm sure its not as hard as it looks but is it?
Can you only get it in Speed Density, i kinda like Maf more, but i'd love to try speed density as well.
I'd love to be able to buy an already built ecm. That'd be awesome. But i am sure it would be much more.
Is it complicated to build?
Where do you actually buy the parts, i cant seem to find the sections to order..
**thought have arisen in my head, this is the way to go, just confirm this for me**

Several people sell complete built units.. www.rs-autosport.com www.diyautotune.com to name a couple. There are others, too. I think they also sell them in kits for you to assemble. I bought my kit from www.glensgarage.com, but sometimes he takes several weeks to get orders shipped.
I had never built anything like that either, but I was able to do it. It took me about 8-10 hours, but I did it.
Also, if you're going to do this, plan on spending the extra $200 for a Wideband O2 sensor like the Innovate LC-1.

do a search for eprom emulators. you can tune on the fly with the stock ecm.
I don't know much about megasquirt, but if you have the $ and really want SEFI I would rip out the factory ecm and go with Autronic. Their real time tuning interface is the best one I've seen.

I would be surprised if anyone could beat MegaAquirts speeds. The processor is lighning fast. I believe that they are using the motorola cold fire. Ultra Mega Squirt will be even faster. I have heard that they even thought of using firewire for the ecm to laptop connection.
I am corrently working on a plug that will be able to connect my 730 ecm or my Mega Squirt.
