'89 Vats chip in '88 non VATS car

Transmission: 700R-4/T-56
Axle/Gears: 3.42/4.10
'89 Vats chip in '88 non VATS car
I did a little research and from what I've gathered it is possible to place a '89 stock TPI 305 auto trans VATS chip into a '88 TPI 305 Manual non VATS ecm. I'm about to purchase the chip from another member and I just wanted to double check with some of you guys

The MEMCAL will work in an '88 ECM. But the engine will only run if that ECM is in an '89 or newer f-body.

Is there any (easy) way to disable or fool VATS without chip burning?
