PASS KEY HELP

Just wondering if there is anyone and how they did it, To eliminate passkey from the car period. One beautiful September day in 05 i drove my car to work and i went to back it out of my stall (im a nissan technicaian) after installing a radiator fan and my car threw its middle finger up at me and said it wasnt going anywhere on its own power for a while. well upon diag the module for the passkey system has burnt out. Im not asking about installing a radio shack diode inline under the steering column i want to rid this of ever happing agian i have a new module but just dont want to use it.
any help would be good help

For an 89 IROC its actually really easy, however you need to be able to burn a new chip for the car. Once you get the software/hardware required you just need to open the file in the editor and click on the VATS switch to disable it. The computer will no longer look for that input and then you can do anything you want with the module and remaining wiring.

related?

in regards to losing pass key, how much work is involved, and the steps to take in elimanation a key ignition? i have no reason to lock my car ever- its more of a pain in my *** to carry the key- can i just put a key less switch instead?

Check this link:

Welcome to the Third Generation USA's Message Forums! - PASS KEY BY PASS

According to the advice given there, you don't have to burn a new Prom, just place a diode in the VATS wiring that matches the resistance of the chip in your key. I am going to try this method.

If you read his whole post you would have noticed that he is not asking about the diode method (its actually a resistor). Instead he wants to eliminate the whole thing. The only way is to program the ECM to not look for the VATS logic.

my car has already had the diode/resister method done and my passkey still failed

D'oh! Dammit, lesson learned, read through it too quickly. My bad.

Thanks, Adam. Let us know how this turns out for you. I'd like to do the same thing on my Birds.

Slow89Iroc-Z is partially correct.
The VATS control module:
-- reads the ign. key resistor "pill"
-- generates a 5-volt 30 hz signal to the ECM,
without which, the ECM won't turn on ignition, or fuel pump relay.
-- closes a starter relay (behind the drivers side kick panel on my 90 formula)

If reprogramming the prom is not a viable option, get a dummy signal
generator to fool the ECM, then by-pass the starter relay. I found one
from an e-bay seller for $15 -- do a member search on S10Wildside.
If not PM me, & I'll forward his e-mail contact.

Good luck...

Nope...I am correct....think about it...why complicate the matter by adding a signal generator? Makes no sense to me when he could have a friend or himself reprogram a chip. All thats need is a Moates adapter and an EPROM. Very clean install.
