I don't know the spec's for the complete ecm assembly, but ordinary commercial ic's in themselves are rated up to 70 degrees Celsius, and automotive ic's even higher. That's pretty burning hot.. Fix a thermometer probe to the ecm casing and go for a drive. I'm sure it's not too bad.

ill help with this, i am doing this same thing i have a 1974 fj40 and i have 16197427 1995 TBI on a fastburn 385 engine, it is mounted under my drivers seat useing a 1985 to 1987 GM TBI bracket that you can get from GM ill have to get the part number for you but you cant get this bracket for 20.00 at any GM dealer it holds the ecm and also takes away vibration and also makes for it to remain cool, yes your mounting in the glove box can overheat it yes, but these computers can take like somthing like 300 degrees before they shut down i remember asking GM on this and that was what they said,
i hope that this help's if you wnat e-mail me some time ill help you further
