USB cable will work w/ '92 ECM?
Ok, I know the guys that follow the forum all the time get sick of these kinds of questions. And I tried some searches, but didn't find what I was after, so;
I have a '92 5.0 TPI car (ECM 7730 if I have read the forum correctly?). This is a track only car and I have been chasing some low power issues. So I ordered the USB cable from ALDLcable.com. I downloaded the latest version of TTS Datamaster (DM35x8D), but have not yet purchased a key for it.
But I have tried a Dell C400 notebook (running on AC power) and a desktop, but so far have not been able to get anything to connect or any sign of data flow. I also tried using the hyperterminal check as suggested by ALDLcable.com, but no luck.
Can anyone confirm that this combination should in fact work? And can anyone offer up some suggestions on how I can further trouble shoot to tweak to get things working?
Thanks,
Jeff

I don't know about that cable, I use moates.net stuff, but I always hook up my cable, go to Device Manager in XP, look and see that my cable is working properly with XP, then look at the COM port is is using.
I then open up Tunerpro RT, Datamaster, or whatever, go to settings, and make sure that my COM port is set to what XP shows.
Shouldn't have a problem then.

Same here, I also built a serial cable based on a MAX232, that I used for a while.
I was going to suggest this very thing
Same here, I use Tuner Pro RT. And have dabbled with Scanner Pro, which has a LOT more flexibility.
The hardest parts is that Scanner Pro is in beta form right now, and if there isn't an ADX file already available for your application, you would need to develope one. I just verified a new ADX I've been working on, works, and now will add more to it, and polish it.
Depending on the application, the ADX might already be developed for Scanner pro.

Ok, thanks for the feedback. I think the cable is being seen by WinXp, and least in Device manager it showed "FFT" (I think) on Com3. I did not see where you change the com port DataMaster is looking at, but I need to go check it again. I had been trying the hyerterminal thing suggested by ALDL.com to check the cable connection.
The Moates stuff is also a USB connection?
