Odd BLM readings

I did some datalogging yesterday after replacing my ECM, for the third time. Everything seems to be working correctly, but I noticed an odd trend with the BLMs. They seem to slowly creep up, then drop way down. Most of this log is idle/warmup, I ran it up to 2000RPM for a bit towards the end. This is the log:

And I've attached a graph showing the trend, RPM vs BLM.

Also, anyone know what "OLDPA3" is?

Re: Odd BLM readings

PA3 is the knock counter value.

I don't believe that the graph is of the BLM value(s). The BLMs are usually limited in span. Such as from 108 to 160. Where the graph shows it ranging from 0 through 255.

Which is what the PA3 counts would do with constant knock being reported.

Check your WinALDL file to see if the correct one is being used.

RBob.

Re: Odd BLM readings

I'm sure I had the correct ECM selected in WinALDL, but I was wondering the same thing too. Every time I glanced at the laptop while the car was running, the BLM value seemed to be around 115-120. I don't remember seeing it move that much, but I wasn't watching it the whole time. Still, I'm wondering if WinALDL somehow logged the wrong values under the BLM column. The values for BLM and Rich/Lean Counter are identical, so I'm thinking it's erroneously logging that instead.

Re: Odd BLM readings

your BLM is going from ~116 to ~135 thats fine with an MAF car
You see in the log sensor:int and sensor:blm going between those values, I posted the info in an excel dokument and all the values got under the right "title" so there is nothing to worry about in you BLM..

WinALDL using 160 Buad, wich is much slower then what our cars can handle, try logging with TTS Datamaster there you got 8192Baud. And there you will see also that the BLM is fine

PS. Ward , the injectors are on the way home .

Re: Odd BLM readings

Yeah, I need to get TTS set up, logging at 160 baud makes it hard to watch the O2 varying voltage, and doesn't really help if you quickly goose the throttle. I'm still confused though, are the values just not showing under the correct columns? How can you tell that it's going from 116 to 135?

Also, speaking of the Ford injectors, I noticed that under heavy throttle (power enrichment mode), I get a slight amount of black smoke from the tail pipes, which I assume is because they flow slightly more than stock. I'll eventually be fixing this with a tune, I think updating the injector constant should take care of it.

Re: Odd BLM readings

your INT is fine and if you look you see the OLDPA have the BLM info.
I put it in an excel dokument and then its much easier to see what info therre is Yeah Datamaster is much better when logging our cars..

what size injectors you got ? and what other modifications and what fuelpressure ? if you go bigger then stock you need to adjust the injector constant in the prom to make it run right.

Re: Odd BLM readings

They're ford 19# injectors, running at stock pressure, 43PSI. However, ford injectors are rated at slightly lower pressure, somewhere around 38PSI if I remember correctly. This means that they should flow a little more than 19# at 43PSI. I'm not sure how to calculate the difference, but I'll probably just try setting the injector constant to 20 or 21, and seeing how it does.

Re: Odd BLM readings

Or just lower the fuelpressure little bit. Im running ~38PSI at idle with vacuum and it goes maybe to ~43PSI when in WOT with vacuum..
They dont flow much more then stock if you using the stock pressure..

If you set the injector constant at 20 or 21 you mess up all other parts, like idle, and part throttle. then you will be lean.. just modify the maf tables where is smokes black, use tts datamaster and then lower the fuel in that maf table where it smokes..

Re: Odd BLM readings

Let me know if you get rid of the blacksmoke issue with the injector constants
