Re: Help me understand my first datalog numbers

#1 is needing more fuel. >128 BLM needs more fuel
#2 is knock counts. Might be false knock. One could pull a couple degrees and see if it reoccurs. If not then we know SA too much

Re: Help me understand my first datalog numbers

i have 24# injectors with a walbro 255lph @ 43psi, LT1 manifold that was modded to replace the tpi, and my full timing by 2700rpms is 37 degrees, should i just up the fuel pressure to like 45 and retard it to like 35 degrees??

I wont comment on fueling but sure try 2 deg. Not sure if tuning with fuel pressure is correct in your case..

i`m interested to see what happens to the knock counts when you pull out some timing.I get a good bit of knock that I`ve determined to be true knock and I`m about to pull some timing or have the guy tuning it pull it.to get it in lineI cant tell you the proper way to do it but if you put in 24#injectors and your lean now i`m pretty sure you need to make the changes in the chip.I dont think adjusting fuel pressure will fix that.Your ecm still thinks it has the stock size injectors apparently.I`m sure someone who knows much more than me will chime in shortly.

well, when i put the new intake on and did all the major mods i went ahead and bought a "custom" chip from tpichips.com, they were supposed to have changed the injector size from 19# to 24#.

I still havent gotten a chance to retard it a few degrees but as soon as i do i will datalog again and post the results on here. hopefully that will get rid of the knock and make it run better...

Re: Help me understand my first datalog numbers

You must mean you`re going to retard the timing with the distributor, base timing.Depending on what its set at it may or may not help.If its at 6* like stock you shouldnt need to retard it.What heads are you running.I had my chip done by him and it was lean and getting alot of knock retard.I took some dattalogs and emailed them to him then sent my chip to him He fixed the lean problem which we thought was causing the knock counts but it didnt get rid of the knock.I just sent my chip back to him to have him pull some timing out untill it stops the knock then work it back up from there.I`ve done some searching and found that stock heads with smaller cc usually dont like alot of timing. So do you have any tuning equipment or are you going to send the chip back to him?I would try dattaloging with TTS Dattamaster. It seems better to me.It shows the amount of knock retard the knock counts are causing and shows you spark advance and all.Winaldl may do all that I just havnt messed with it much.I just dont have time to tune my own chips but If i cant get it straightened out I may have to make time.

I have 64cc iron heads with flat tops, yes i did mean retarding the distributor, i have it at 37 degrees by 2700rpms,

I do not have any tuning equipment just the aldl cable and a laptop.

The reason for me doing all of this is because my car backfires everynow and then and when cold it misses, for example if i give it some gas it doesnt do anything for a few seconds then it just revs up uncontrolably, i beleive thats open loop? i was told my VE tables were incorrect??
The car also hesitates @ idle when cold.
Its something that is driving me insane and i really dont wanna have to slap a carburator on there.

Re: Help me understand my first datalog numbers

When you datalog you will see KC's at a specific RPM/MAP. Most likely in an area where engine is under load building cylinder pressure. Anyway that is what I saw in my initial datalogs. It was obvious. I needed to pull timing(2-3 deg) only in that cell. That took away the KC. I was running 93 octane 10.0/1 compression. Changing to 89 octane they did not reappear. You can certainly change the distributor position but that is not a proper fix. Consider getting a cable and winALDL on your laptop. Send those logs to Brian tpichips.com so he has a chance to get it right.
