Code 36
i've searched forum and googeld a lot but couldn't find answer
i have Camo with 88 305 TPI engine, i have put 350 injectors and 88 350 TPI ECM, it gives 36 code and after minute or two headers start to glow real hard, that means the ignison is beeing retarded a lot but i can't find any reason why this heppens. Any sugestions?? My mechanc is checking burn-off relay and wiring but in other car when we got 36 code also but there was no problem with glowing headers
Best regards

No need to upgrade the fuel pump, the problem is the ECM. The tune is wrong for a 305, and the injectors are too big. You need a chip with the proper tune for the 305 on it (get a chip burner) and the injector constant updated to work with the 350 injectors.

Re: Code 36
yes true it needs tune but even with this setup it should act normal and just take little to much of fuel, but this evening (we are 6 hours ahead form NY) we had strange situation, we have fixed some wiring on engine harness, car started like brand new, we rolled out on street, it was pulling like hell, no prolem with timing and glowing headers for like 5-10 min strong and light driving, and then in a sec code 36 came back, glowing problem and wrong timing too.
earlier it was having problem from start up

Re: Code 36
it was wire (white) from ecm to distributor (not shure if i use proper word), before fix there was week signal on that wire, nowit is strong, as for MAF even if it's unplugred still same glowing problem

Re: Code 36
That is the timing control wire from the ECM for the ICM. Weak connections there would keep the computer from controlling the timing at all.
I would check continuity of all distributor wires, all grounds, maybe test the pickup coil. The brown wire is the override wire and should have 5 volts with the car running.
The purple wire is the ignition signal to the ecm. This should be a five volt square wave output to the ecm. Verify the continuity of this wire.
Those are some things to start with.
Does the car stumble at all while running? Any tach irregularities?

Re: Code 36
In that case I would check the ICM and pickup coil and purple wiring first. Code 36 can indicate the ECM getting irregular tach pulses. I suppose that throwing code 36 disables the spark advance.
