(FAST) Fuel Air Spark Technology
I have an 87 IROC Z 28 with a 350 TPI. I have already maxed out the stock computer with an upgrade from an 88 Corvette and with a hypertech chip.
Other upgrades to the car consist of rebuilt trannie with shift kit, rebuilt rear end, Eaton gears, Richmond axles, and 3 inch Flowmaster exhaust.
Problem- Every time I want to upgrade something on the engine, the first this that comes to topic is "Is this compatible/ possible with the current computer?"
Solution: Get rid of stock computer.
I am thinking about going to a stand alone fuel management system from FAST. Has anyone done this and can give any suggestions or advice?

I don't know who they are. Some guys i work with (tuner Typ guys) told me to talk to a new shop in Toledo. They where the ones that told me about fast. I looked. Them up on line. Got a phone number, $3,200 for a complete stand alone. I looked on eBay found same stuff $2,000 I know this won't be cheap but I think this will be a good start for what I want to do with the iroc.

If (1227165) is the box inside the car that you put the hyperteck chip in. I only mean that I have taken it has far as it will go??? I don't know much about EFI, give me a v8 carb anyday of the week. How ever I do like the throttle response of a EFI. So I want to keep it. I was told by the previous owner, that they took the box out of a 88 Corvette and put the chip in. Is the vette box better than what's in the iroc???? I don't know. I do know when this car was new in 87, there where computers with floppy disk, no internet, and atari's. I just think that I could do more to the car with a stand alone EFI. But if you know something, anything about the computer please post it. I have seen some post that talk about using a box out of a typhoon. How dose that work, that tuck has a v6???? Thanks for any help.

yes, the '7165 is the box(probably under the dash) that you would stick an aftermarket chip in. and the corvette and f-body ECMs were identical from at least 86-89, possibly earlier as well. being a 87, your car is a MAF-based system, which allows for things like boost a bit easier than a speed-density would(which most aftermarket systems use)
what all do you have in mind as far as anything that isn't stock in the future?
GM OBD1 ECMs are quite versatile even with some of the P4 systems from 1986 being 24 years old now, not to mention MUCH cheaper to tune and you won't have to deal with wiring in new stuff. PROM burner, chip adapter, ALDL cable and a few chips will come up to less than $200.

Re: (FAST) Fuel Air Spark Technology
Right now I have a budget of $2,600. The iroc needs a new egr valve, a good tune up and it just started to run hot. Soon I will have a week off from work and wanted to spend time under the hood. In my mind I have spent the money 100 times, on different upgrades.
1st plan..... was to do a top in rebuild from the cam up. Replace the heads with aluminum ones, replaces the lower intake and runners, bigger throttle body.
2nd plan..... turbo or some kind force induction. Found turbo kits on EBay for less than $1,000 cool I thought just fab up some headers and put it all on.
3rd.....plan ls1 swap... let's just say my budget won't let me do that.
However, after talking to some guys I work with and friends. The question about the ecm came up and the fact that any upgrades I make will have to fit in with what that thing can handle.
This guy I work with, he is a tuner Typ person. He has a srt4 running 28lbs of boost.. he dropped $7,000 under his hood.He gave me the number to the shop that works on his car. They told me about stand alone EFI systums. They said if I want to run a turbo or do any kind of upgrads, that I should get a stand alone first.
On eBay if you Typ in fast EFI you can see what I am thinking about getting.. and like I said, I know. nothing about any of this ecm EFI TPI or prom burning..
Thanks for any help...............

Re: (FAST) Fuel Air Spark Technology
i see no reason why you couldn't use the stock computer for that set of mods(since the LS1 swap is out due to cost)...
and it would free up a massive portion of your budget as well.
BTW, i used to live in toledo, which speed-shop are you in contact with? and most shops like dealing with standalones since more often than not, you get good WOT performance out of them at the cost of driveability, but they are usually easier to deal with(and the simplicity is why driveability suffers).

Your friend don't know very much about 3rd gen's or they want to see your spend a bunch of loot on wasted stuff so you can't buy speed parts to beat em
But your computer like already said, can handle just about anything you do to the car and more, its not rocket science.
save the money for other stuff, embrace the DIY prom section

Nice notch back gumby....... The shop that he had the work done was pure tuning. However they did something wrong so us went to a new shop called accelerator, and that's the shop I talked to.
I don't know anyone that knows anything about ecm's.. I have had this iroc for just under a year now. Most of that time was spent in the body shop. After it was backed in to the a$$. After that was fixed I ran a bike over $2,600 to fix that. Thank god for Ins $250 deductible. So I am trying to learn some new tricks for this old car.

Well save that 2-3 grand for other stuff, drive into the DIY prom section here.
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/diy-prom/
Our cars aren't as advanced or as dumb as some think, for $2-300 you can burn new chip with all sorts of new configs for your computer.
