Hey guys i just bought an aldl cable and i am wanting to start tuning my own car. I did some datalogging a few minutes ago and i saw that my BLM is 160 Which indicates a ?lean? mixture. is this a normal value with all this stuff removed?

car was idleing in closed loop at operating temperature
all data values are in spec
minimum air and tps set

and just on a side note i dont have smog at all its been completely removed but not programmed out yet
and egr valve is on the car but the solenoid and all the vacuum lines have been removed and the ports plugged

 

Ya 160 is way lean. Check for any vacuum leaks, low fuel pressure.
128 is the BLM goal. You can boost fuel pressure to drive BLM's down until you get your tuning hardware.

 

i know my egr valve is bad but could just not having it hooked up cause it to run this lean? i am going to pick up a new valve this weekend

 

An EGR stuck open will lean the mixture.
Just plugging it tends to fattens the mix slightly, during times when EGR operation is commanded.

 

ok thanks. i am going to get a valve this weekend and hook everything back up theres no reason why this wouldnt help the lean condition right?

 

If your EGR IS defective your engine will love you for replacing it, it's suffering.

Make sure your exhaust is fully sealed, any leaks can throw O2 readings off.

The EGR would have to be stuck open for the lean symptom, this a less common failure but happens.
Without knowing this is the case, I cannot confirm your last statement.

 

there is no exhaust leaks and the egr ports are clean. i replaced the valve today and it seems to run better. it is still running 160 block learn though: i have 42 psi at the rail and 38 while running air pump and smog has been removed

 

It's time to get after the fuel pressure. Use BLM's as a guide.

What are your intake manifolds like? Fuel pump?

lol ok i will remember that thanks for all your help now to bump the fuel pressure i will need an adjustable regulator how much do these usually run and what is a good brand that i can look into?

 

I have used the Jet, it works good, its blue.
Vacuum reference models are useful for some builds, your stocker won't need that.
Other's might have another favorite worth looking at.
You will need to use your diaphragm, or get a new one if yours is hammered.

 

and the new one just goes in place of the stock regulator cover?

You did not mention what pressure you set, very important.

Be patient while it tries to do it's thing, I got 'fused again w/your vehicle description, can you rearrange/split that up somehow?
I wasted much thought & typing on a 400hp tpi. My bad.

It does take some driving, & cold start, run to temp cycles for the computer to fully adjust within it's capability. To reset the computer getting rid of stored settings disconnect battery for 2 min.

I reset the ecm im going to drive it for a few days and see what happens. car seems to run fine
