Monkey's questions about ECM, EFI, and EBL
Hi,
My Daily drive is a 92 Buick Roadmaster Wagon with L05 engine (132 000 miles on the clock)
It is almost stock except 9C1 Y piping, CAT delete, 9C1 pipe 2 1/2" to Summit Turbo muffler, and then stock overaxle pipe (2 1/4") with resonator delete.
I used to have caddy intake mod but now re-installed stock air box with K&N filter.
I plan to upgrade with headers and/or heads and/or ported TBI.
In any case the first step would be to get a tunable ECM.
Here comes my monkey's questions.
I have reviewed Dynamic EFI site (EBL system). It is nice and the screen copies looks great but it does not tell me what I can benefit from that even with my almost stock engine and overall, I have no idea how I can becone a good engine tuner as I never did that before !!!
I am good at mechanic (I made a full rebuild of my 4L60 tranny in february) but I have no experience in modern engine tuning
Could you please try to explain in simple words what one has to do to get the EBL (or others if more suitable) adapted to the car at first connection ??
I have no idea how it really works, what it can tell you, what parameters you must play with, what parameters you don't have to change etc....

Did you see/read the "Introduction to tuning" part 1 & 2 on the DynamicEfi site?
This should answer many of your questions.

Hi,
Well in fact I did read the Part I but could only find a basic explanation how to use the software and open the files.
This confused me ... like if one teach you how to handle a hammer without telling you why using the hammer and what is a nail !
This is simply why I did not move onto Part II because it was not in my mind that part II would help me more than part I !!!
After getting in touch with BobR he directed me to Part II and then I saw the light !!!!
I have to study it now !

I think we all started with learning how to succesfully datalog thru ALDL port and then reach an understanding as to what the sensors are saying. After making the changes you describe you may see that you fuel tables need some changes here or there.

Re: Monkey's questions about ECM, EFI, and EBL
Ordered ECM with EBL flasher installed - it is on its way from Pensilvania
Bought some books from the UK (Chevy SB valvetrains, cams, heads, rebuild).
Up to now my idea is as follows:
- spacer to lift the injector pods
- spacer to lift the TBI assembly (no sure of this one cause I am not looking for high power in RPM)
- do the fuel pressure regulator mod to adapt fuel pressure/fuel flow
- new rockers with 1.6 ratio (aluminum, steel ... ??? too many models exist !!!!)
- headers and dual exhaust system.
- K&N improved air box (not sure yet of system, caddy mod or other)
This is on L05 stock engine.
The car is my only car, mean Daily Drive and family car for holidays.
My aim is to improve torque from idle to 3000 rpm with economy.
I do not need high RPM power because I don't do Dragster very often
. Only at some occasions when I want to play or when stupid people get on my nerves on the road (sorry can't help but trying to get less nervous
)
Is my future setup OK ??

Re: Monkey's questions about ECM, EFI, and EBL
OK don't get confused, this is my response to your open-loop question in DSGx's thread, it's easier for me..
As Ronny said OL settings from the stock .bin are fine for a stocker as most of the time you would be running in CL.
Cold/choke, sensor failure & WOT are some exceptions.
I use a LC-1 for OL tuning.
It's fine to get your VE tables set with the NB, then move on to WB tuning OL or CL.

Re: Monkey's questions about ECM, EFI, and EBL
When you get EBL first thing to do is read the CD that comes with. It will tell you what you need to do first as far as necessary changes in your EBL.bin. there are several listed on CD. I believe you want stock L03 with auto trans. Not sure if RBob offers L05 with auto but he might. If you use L03 bin it is imperitive you make changes he recommends to get you started. also right now you can visit his site and read into tunin part 1 and part 2

Nope, not yet.
Got the EBL and CD.
A .bin is for L05 700r4 Caprice RM - will be fine I think.
But I have to install it first !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
