info about hypertech chip

I just paid for a Hypertech 121322 should be shipped soon. Is this a chip that is just plug and play or do I need anything else with it? Has anyone noticed a gain with this chip? Thank you

I used to have this chip, is it the piggyback version or did you get the whole prom chip? Anyway, a 160 degree thermostat is required cause now your driver's side fan (main fan) is programmed to come on at 176 degrees. Timing is increased a little at WOT too, torque converter will lock up a later than stock, fuel is leaned out a little at WOT also. I think you may feel a slight gain if your car is stock, but i feel this is mainly due to the torque converter settings.

with no air, there should be a small change done in the chip, but u should be alright. With headers i would say that richening up the mixture would give u better results.

nah,it really just changes how the car "acts". Throttle response ,etc. Like I said before the biggest gain from it is prob just from the torque converter settings

make sure to place in ECU correctly not 180 deg out. Also may want to disconnect battery as a precaution. Enjoy the added power.

Hold the ecm in your hands, the harness of your ecm should be on your right on the ecm.Access door on the left side. If u have the white style of the Hypertech(all in one unit) then look inside it through the windows in the top, u should see a label with writing on it(part #'s) that is the actual eprom(chip) that part should be facing up when u install the whole thing into your ecm. Look at my next pic of an ecm.

Re: info about hypertech chip

ok ecm is laying on my floor I plugged the original prom into the hypertech chip then put it in the ecm it only went one way. Car starts and runs. This was very easy but still wondering about the second chip. Was I supposed to put the 2 chips together then put it in the ecm? I cant drive my car till I get my throttle cable I only have 2 strands left on my original cable I dont want to hurt my car from it be stretched and frayed. I ordered 2 cables because there are very few left at the dealer and seems like nobody else is making cable for tpi cars.

not sure what u mean. You wanna insert the small black eprom into the green adapter and then take your stock chip and plug that into the green adapter also. Make sure they are both facing the proper directions. That picture shows the stock chip with its blue plastic cover removed.Note the direction of both eprom chips. They both face forward. The hypertech is just the small black eprom chip shown on the bottom of the picture ,you need to use your stock chip also to run the car,

If u have another eprom that the guy sold u, you need to contact him and find out what is on it. Unless you have the means to read the bin.

So I did it right now, I have to find out what is the deal with the other chip. I have no way to read the chip. But maybe the guy that i got it from will respond back.

Re: info about hypertech chip

I've compared the hypertech programs to stock chips. The only difference I can see is minor fuel and spark changes in mid-range RPM and lower fan turn on temperature. Neither of which do much of any thing and will in fact lower your MPG. In my opinion, The piggyback adapters are not great for long term use. Are you sure that the programming on the chip is for your car and motor?

Util;ity: I forgot something about the HYper. Mine was stage two or whatever it is called. When i installed I noticed the instruction said to move the initial timing from 6 to 10. That tells me the SA for WOT is achieved with a wrench and timing light. So the fueling change is all that is in chip plus it may in fact pull SA in midrage to avoid det due to added SA mechanically.

Right. I believe that is exactly what it does. adds 4* across the entire spark table but pulls some in mid-range to prevent detonation. Provides a little more power at the expense of mileage and overall smoothness. For TPI they have the 122321 street runner and 122322 thermo master which requires a 160 thermostat which I believe is completely wrong for an engine designed to run around 210 degrees.

no,stg2 hypertech spark table is exactly the same as a stock AUJP til u get to 90-100 kpa. It then adds like 3 degrees of timing there(WOT). the VE table is the same deal, but it actually gets leaner in the 90-100map ares. Fan temps and TC settings are different and the target A/F ratios at like 4k rpm and above are richened.
