ECM, the on board computer

Where is the ECM located on a 1992 camaro 305 V8??
Basically, where is the computer located? How do I change the chip or reprogram the computer?
Or is there an aftermarket programmable computer that is plug in ready?
I would like to tune for performance so I can get more power out of my 305. I just need more info on the computer. What does it specifically control, do, and connected to? Is there a wiring diagram??
Thanks!!

I have the same exact car its under passenger side dash kinda sitting straight up and down. Metal box bout 12X6 can't miss it. Two wire harnesses connected to one end. As far as programming havn't gotten into it yet but as far as what i've gathered from the site so far its a must.

Drop the panel under dash just above your passangers feet. There are a couple of screws maybe 4 to remove and then the ECU can slide down onto floor of car.

Check out stickies in DIYProm. See Craig Moates for the hardware.

Re: ECM, the on board computer

thanks!
Is there anyway to plug a laptop in to the ECM? to reprogram it?
are there any ECMs out there that can be programed by a laptop that fit in to the camaro? like a new ECM with this feature, that fits into the camaro

I know there is a chip out there that can replace the old one, but i dont know much about it.

Nope that would be too easy. Someone has to invent that.

You will need to burn chips or have someone do for you. tbichips.com is an option.

read the stickies. If you chose to DIY see craig moates on equiptment to to so.

also be aware thet you will need to datalog first.

Re: ECM, the on board computer

appears to be a suppliment to your current ECU....also appears to serve the community that uses boost... years back a FMC was used and it had its limitations...Procharger offered for early EFI(ie TBI)...

Quote: This system works parallel to the factory ECU preventing tuning limitations due to complex factory timing patterns. 21x17 maps with configurable load and RPM breakpoints are easily accessed with the F/IC's Windows-based tuning software.

The missing link?

http://www.dynamicefi.com/

It is quite frankly and in fact the most straightforward tuning solution for your rig.
