Yes it is a basic 350, Think the it was rated at 300 HP, and 320 with my mods. I would like a unit that could handle a head and cam change to get around the 400 Hp mark.

Re: Need help picking EFI System for my 3rd Gen

Stock ecm will handle whatever you want just needs tuned. If you cant do it or dont know anyone who can do the tuning you will need to spend money on a system that ppl can tune.

If you are eventually looking for more hp then stock tpi intakes arent for you. Need another setup like weiand stealth ram or edelbrock pro flo xt or one of the efi single plane carb intakes. Then efi management system like holley efi, fast, big stuff 3, megasquirt, accel to name a few. Lots more money that way tho

Can you still get the Pre programed proms for the stock ECM's I have been away from the car scene for a bit, My Car has been in storage while life has moved on, I am putting up a Garage as we speak and I will be moving my car to my home so it'll be in my shop. There is nothing wrong with my car but figured I d start messing with it again.

Is it better to get a factory harness or to go after market?

Re: Need help picking EFI System for my 3rd Gen

It really depends on your $$$ budget and how much time you want to invest to tune.
I paid $500 or so to have the EBL P4 Flash installed into my ECM, I of course had the factory harness, so I can use Tuner Cat to program / change options... I also have options for down the road, when I want to add a turbo...

There are more expensive XFI systems for example, that cost a lot more... and do more things automatically...

I am looking for a reasonably priced set up that is decent, I don't plan on adding any turbos.

This is what I did:

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/dfi-...placement.html

Very easy to build it to replace an existing ECM. I wired it to the '165 ECM pinout, but instead using the MAF wires for a 2bar map sensor.

I spent a number of years, over 10 in fact, playing with OE type stuff, and after spending the past 3 months learning about and playing with Megasquirt I'll never go back.

That's because you never used the EBL...it's MUCH better than the
microsquirt IMO.

I looked into it. RBob did a great job with the code modifications and the EBL board. For the money it's a great deal, and for guys that just want a plug and play system and not so much a DIY experience, it's the way to go for sure.

I like the Megasquirt (Mega/micro, etc) because it's realtime, 1 cable tuning. Uses one interface software (tunerstudio) for everything. It has a ton of built in features, advanced functionality to test and calibrate sensors, supports hybrid MAP/MAF, multiple fueling options (multi table or expanded tables), extra input/output ports are programmable in the GUI with a number of 'triggers' (for example, you can turn on your alky injection when MAP is greater than a threshold, but also under a number of other conditions), has full wideband fuel learn (even wot), a real spark rev limiter, launch control, nitrous control, boost control, flex fuel support (e85).

And the thing I like about it the most. If there is some strange circumstance where you can't actually do something you want in the GUI, the source code (C source) is open and very easy to alter. Downloading MS/extra code, making changes, compiling, and uploading to the MS is a piece of cake! Their appears to be no limit to the documentation of the MS, and I don't just mean on a couple of thirdgens, but every possible mixture of components - sequential injection, ford electronics, chevy electronics - whatever, it's documented and configurable.

are you going to use ANY power adders? if not then look into the FAST ez EFI as it tunes itelf and the new ez 2.0 controls spark. i have the current ez system and love it, been running it for the past 2 yrs or so.
