i dont know what im doing wong . is there a different cable than the one from my 1991 syclone . it should be the same one right? i cant get any readings

 

You might want to start out telling what vehicle your working with and cable you are using. If this is a 1227165 ecm you need to use a 10k resister to start data flow. Are you using the correct definition ? Have you verified the driver for your cable ? Baud rate ?

 

ok i have a 1987 iroc tpi 305 . im not sure what cable it is . i got the cable with my 1991 gmc truck and it works with datamaster fine . i dont know if it has a resistor or not i thought it would work , what do i need to start .thanks for any info

 

If there is not a switch on the cable assemble back probe the aldl a to b with a 10k resister and try to establish a connection the 87 would be $32B.

what does a resistor do . i dont know electric . how do i put them in . i see the a-g on the inside of the plug how does it all work?

 

On the 165 ecm the ecm diagnostic must have a 10k resistor to ground to enable serial data flow.

ok it looks like the 10k resistors come in a 5 pack . how many do i need and where do they go

 

you just need one , it get placed on the back side of the aldl pin A to B
