Won't shut off

Anyone ever have a ECM cause the engine to not shut off with key. I already eliminated the alternator, unhooked it completely still runs on can unplug ignition switch same thing. Pulled all fuse except ones needed for spark, fuel, and computer still runs on?

Re: Won't shut off

2 things would need to get power the accessory power to the ecm and the distributor switched power. Or if your saying its deseling check your base timing and the ecm accessory switched power. You don't state what ecm you are using so I can't say what pin to check.

Re: Won't shut off

Won't shut off at all runs great. Using 1227730 ECM it seems to me like once the engine starts the ECM keeps feeding power to coil and fuel after you shut off the ignition switch won't die till you pull coil, fuel or ECM fuse. With out starting the engine power to ECM switches on and off with key like it should but once I start it there is power all the time

A6 on the ecm goes to switched ingintion source , check to see it that has power when you turn the ignition off.

The ecm doesn't power the coil or distributor the ignition switch give accessory power to the coil and the distributor send DRP to the ecm.

I know but after the engine is running it will stay energized after the switch is off till I kill it by pulling coil wire or ecm fuse then the power drops off. it's like the altenator is feeding the system after switching off but I have disconnected the alt and it still does it so it is getting power from somewhere else

Re: Won't shut off

any relays that you can think of that might go bad and cause a back feed thru the sytem?

Re: Won't shut off

is it possible for the ecm to back feed power to the inginition thru fuel pump power. Car wiil shut off and run fine if I do one of 2 things, 1. un plug fuse to fuel relay (slow start due to having to build oil press) 2. unplug oil pressure switch and just use relay, if both are connected the engine will not shut off with the key.

Re: Won't shut off

There is something wired wrong. At key-off the ECM stops firing the injectors. And, power to the ignition coil is turned off.

So it sounds like there is still power to the IGN+ side of things that is keeping the ECM & engine running.

yes thats what I'm trying to figure out. If I run on just the relay or just the oil pressure switch it shuts off just fine but with both of them connected like factory schematic for 92 it wont shut off run good for 2 years till out sat outside and a rain shower came thru went to pull in garage and would not shut off was wondering if possible ecm fried from moist.

It may be a bad ECM, but that doesn't explain how the engine could keep running when the ignition coil no longer has power.
