ECU Options?

Hello everyone i am new to this forum but ive been reading a lot of posts on here for a long time. But now i need help, I have an 87 Iroc z28 that was originally equipped with a 5.0 and an automatic trans. It has since been swapped to a ZZ4 crate motor (with the tpi off of the 5.0), T5 trans, 350 injectors, and a bigger throttle body. Ive been having an issue with the car surging at idle after it warms up. Ive replace the MAF and IAC sensors and it still does it. So after thinking for a while i feel like the factory ecu is the problem. Please tell me if im wrong. If you agree are their some affordable options out there for a programmable ECU and harness? Thank You

Your existing ECM is tuneable. Check out the stickies in the DIY PROM forum.

I'm not really computer savvy and i think because mine is a TPI that i can't just take the PROM out? It that correct?

Re: ECU Options?

Easiest to....
1/swap in a complete ecu from the same car with 350 option.
2/ forget the chip burning and talk to Rbob about an EBL- plugs in with tunability.
3/ 411 pcm with 24x reluctor and go LSX style with harness and EFIlive.

Re: ECU Options?

I'm just finishing up a 383 and had the shop install eficonnection's reluctor and vortec (gen1 style) cover, working on collecting all the oe parts instead of $$ kit option. Harness's are just rude $$.

That's pretty cool.

My MS supports 24x, a lot of guys using them for LSx swaps now.

I'd probably have to get an MSD crank trigger though, I couldn't use a vortec timing cover on my 400 block as I'm running cam button.

Re: ECU Options?

I'm running the EBL right now and it's a good system- but have had distributer issues in the past and wanted to go coil near plug- and the fact that more guys are using hptuner or efilive. There's likely is an option for timing covers and cam buttons at eficonnection but the last time I looked.....again $$$- I don't think I'm cheap but I look more to value. I had MS on a turbo 22re 4runner, tuner replaced it with VEMS, said he couldn't get the fine tune down with it and at the MS didn't support the aisin auto trans, have since put a 5-speed in and am having trouble with cam/crank sensors (in the dizzy)- the toyota has big compromises if you want to run crank trigger and need to change belt or willing to live with slipped harmonic ring if magnets intsalled.

If I was running a near stock 700R4/TPI car I'd probably use an EBL since it's easy to use and cost effective, but for my race cars it's just too feature limited.

Re: ECU Options?

Decent system from a knowledgeable guy. But yes even I find a few options I would have liked to see which I`m hoping that the 411 will allow.
