Memcal problem

Hey guys, I think I've narrowed my
Cars weird running problem down to a bad memcal. I removed the memcal cober from my ecm, with the car running, if I tap on the side of the ECM or just barely touch the memcal, the check engine light will come on and the car will instantly run badly. There seems to be a loose connection at the memcal. But I don't know for sure. Could it be the ECM? Bad ground to the ECM? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Re: Memcal problem

The previous owner had already changed it out once before.. Is it possible 2 have gone bad? Seems kind of odd.

Re: Memcal problem

I have only experienced 2 bad memcals in the last 14 years. Both have lost data and were throwing a code 51. I was able to salvage them both.
My bet would be a bad ECM. It seems like out of the obd1 ecms the 165 experienced circuit board flexing. I can test your memcal on a simulator if you want to cover shipping. I hate
To see someone throw good money after bad. I use to loan members ecms but I have been ripped off twice so I'm not doing that any more but I do have a 165 for $60 if that helps and if it doesn't fix the issue if you return it I will refund you minus shipping. Or if you put a ad in the wanted section maybe someone close will come over and let you try there ECM.

Re: Memcal problem

Thanks a lot for your offer and help. I may take you up on it. The ECM in the car has a 1 year warranty from autozone, so I'm thinking of exchanging the one I have for a new one. But I'm not happy about the idea of putting another autozone computer in...
