EBL Flash

I have a 87 IROC 5.7. It has the dreaded code 33 and I am thinking about changing over to the EBL flash system. Question is will this work with the TPI system? If so can I expect?

Re: EBL Flash

Yes, the EBL Flash with the Port Mod will run your engine. Need to install a MAP sensor using the MAF wires to wire the signal to the ECM. A handful of terminals/wires need to be moved in the ECM harness connectors.

So the MAP sensor will take the place of the MAF correct? Will this hurt performance of the car? Can you explain how everything works so that I understand? Thanks RBob

Yes, the MAF can stay in place but won't be used.

No, it can improve the performance as you will be able to easily tune the ECM.

Everything is a broad category. Basically a MAP sensor is mounted, plumbed, and wired into the EFI harness. Can find the sensor, pigtail, bracket, and a vacuum line from a '88 - '92 TBI f-body, or a '90 - '92 MPFI 3.1l f-body. It is mounted on the passenger side firewall. Can also get the MAP sensor and such from other vehicles.

Unplug the stock ECM, move four terminals/wires in the harness connectors, plug in the EBL Flash ECM. Connect it to the laptop and flash in one of the supplied TPI calibrations. Turn the key to start the engine.

I'm converting my 87 IROC 305TPI/700R to a 355 bottom end/T5... I have a 91 Firebird 305TBI. Would if be better to reprogram the IROCs EPROM or do this conversion? This system seems more user friendly

Re: EBL Flash

Hi there
Been running a p4 flash for about 3-4 years and had a series of problems that led me to replacing my ECM
I was driving onto the freeway got 1 backfire and coasted dead to the side of the road.
After a bunch of test and no trouble codes I replace the EST
That got me running for a while till It started cutting out and through an EST code as well as a ESC code
After this I replaced the distributor, coil, second ESC cap rotor, reload the bin and thoroughly checked my grounds. to no avail. The motor would idle but periodical stall and throw the codes.
With nothing left I through in my old 1227730 with an Ostrich and it has worked flawlessly.
I am on the hunt for a new 1227730 to put the flash into it
Any one have a similar issues?
Is there any test on the ECM I can do?
Thx Dave

It is a lot easier to tune via the EBL systems then with a stock ECM.

With the engine running rap on the ECM case. If the way the engine runs changes when this is done points to a intermittent ECM.

Is there a basic program for my type of changes or would I have to program it myself? I've never tuned by computer. What I read on the EBL system it looks very intimidating to a newby like myself.
