Re: Is this memcal repairable?

might touch up all the prom solder points, the knock filter definatly needs to be touched up . Any idea engine modifications if any ? That’s a 350 automatic memcal someone has attached a flash based eeprom to . Not sure why the knock filter is pried up won’t mess with starting.

Re: Is this memcal repairable?

It has no mods that I know of. I have owned the car for about 10 yrs. It’s just a 350 tpi car. Me either but it started and ran like crap but when I pushed this down and it made contact the car idles perfect and the ses light went out. I only checked it because when I turned the key both fans would kick on so I figured it was in limp mode. And as soon as I messed with the memcal it fixed and then went back to stuttering once I pulled it up

Re: Is this memcal repairable?

A few ways to fix, get a moates d2 unsolder the chip
firmly solder in the d2 . Clean the legs of the sst eeprom and stick in the d2 dip socket. Or use a g1 and bypass the prom but would need a burn 2 burner and a sst eeprom. It looks like when they added the chip they attached to the original proms legs so it still can be salvaged and removed. Not sure why someone would unsolder the knock filter board.

Re: Is this memcal repairable?

Odds are it is the ECM that is bad, not the MEMCAL. Press on the ECM board in various areas and see if the same issue pops up.

RBob.

Re: Is this memcal repairable?

The chip is in the zif backwards, you can remove the zif and socket that eeprom into the dip on the g1 notch towards the nearest outside edge. Or like rbob said could be a bad ecm

Re: Is this memcal repairable?

Ok I will start to troubleshoot to see if it’s a bad ecm. You mean the little black chip needs to face the other way?
