I got around to trying to start my 91 trans am and it would just crank and not start….I noticed when I messed with the computer it would start and sometimes it would jot. So I took the memcalnput and found that some of the pins where jotakimg contact. Is this repairable?
might touch up all the prom solder points, the knock filter definatly needs to be touched up . Any idea engine modifications if any ? That’s a 350 automatic memcal someone has attached a flash based eeprom to . Not sure why the knock filter is pried up won’t mess with starting.

It has no mods that I know of. I have owned the car for about 10 yrs. It’s just a 350 tpi car. Me either but it started and ran like crap but when I pushed this down and it made contact the car idles perfect and the ses light went out. I only checked it because when I turned the key both fans would kick on so I figured it was in limp mode. And as soon as I messed with the memcal it fixed and then went back to stuttering once I pulled it up
A few ways to fix, get a moates d2 unsolder the chip
firmly solder in the d2 . Clean the legs of the sst eeprom and stick in the d2 dip socket. Or use a g1 and bypass the prom but would need a burn 2 burner and a sst eeprom. It looks like when they added the chip they attached to the original proms legs so it still can be salvaged and removed. Not sure why someone would unsolder the knock filter board.
I actually have a chip burned for it I’m using the moates adapter it was running perfect by then started to give me problems I have the one that locks into place I’ll snap a picture so you can see it.
The chip is in the zif backwards, you can remove the zif and socket that eeprom into the dip on the g1 notch towards the nearest outside edge. Or like rbob said could be a bad ecm
