Ecm removal

So I’m removing the ecm from my 88 firebird gta. Now I’m not good with wiring and don’t want to cut anything to make this easier. There is a loom running from the part of the harness that goes from the drivers side firewall to the front of the car right behind the drivers headlight and splits 3 ways. Part of it runs across in front of the radiator. Will I need to remove the Rad to get this part out?

Re: Ecm removal

The only wiring you should be removing is that which comes from the passenger-side kick panel through the passenger-side fender apron. Don't mess with the engine & lights harnesses from tbe driver-side firewall...

Re: Ecm removal

From every thread I’ve read it says s to pull the entire harness. What does the wiring from the drivers side run? Headlights?

I just told you; engine & lights. Leave all that alone. Pull out the entire harness from the passenger-side kick panel (after you've unplugged it all from the ECM) through the opening in the fender apron near the firewall. Don't cut anything. Just unplug it all...

Re: Ecm removal

Ok so some of the wires that came through the passenger fender go across the firewall to those other harnesses

Re: Ecm removal

There may be a couple wires that plug into something from those harnesses. Just unplug them. Leave EVERYTHING coming from the bulkhead connectors next to the power brake booster intact.
I did the exact same thing on my '83 that you are trying to do. I never labeled any of the wires (don't ask me why) and I still was able to figure out where each one was supposed to go, with help from my Factory Service Manual...

So these are the wires I’m having issues with. There is a group of orange wires soldered together and a group of brown wires that are soldered together. Both of these have wires that branch off to a harness or a relay and from the harness branch off to the block on the drivers side of the firewall. No clips left to disconnect.

There’s no way this can be removed without cutting some wires
