Can I use DFI?

I am looking to buy this ACCEL DFI (model #74023) and the CAL MAP with software from a guy that was going to build an incredible 383 engine. He never finished his motor and as a result, never installed the DFI unit. As far as I can see, other than it being out of the box, this thing is new. The guy never installed the DFI unit. The price of this DFI is $800 .
I think this package sells for a little over $1,200 new. Am I correct? Is $800 a good price
Can I use this to corvert the Mass Air System in my GTA when I do my 383 or 406 buildup or do I just need a piggyback system?
Thanx

Unless it comes with all the sensors, $800 is not that great a deal, but it is ok. That's what I spent when I bought mine a few years ago, Calmap included. The Accel unit does use a MAP sensor, so you'd have to convert from Speed Density (MAF). No piggy-back required.

Thanx RCR. I have attached a picture (hopefully). It does come with all the sensors and it does convert from MAF to Speed density I believe
Would it be easier just to use a piggyback system?

That looks like the complete setup sold be Jegs or Summit. I'd say it was worth the money. It will make your system SD. You will also have to repin the harness or find an adapter.

Thanx Earl and RCR.

Another question, should I wait and use the Gen 7 system which is windows based? Is the only difference the software?

Earl
Where can I get my harness rewired? Can I get the ECU with Gen 7 software?

The Gen7 offers more features and better control. Exact differences, I'm not sure, but I'm sure it's more expensive.

Thanx again for the input RCR.

I went onto summit's website and put in the accel part number and the price was a little over $900, but they were back ordered. I think I will have to give Fast Track a call and see if they have Gen 7 and how much it will cost.

i'll sell you mine for $700

AND

throw in my plug-n-play harness for nothing (cost me $175)

basically what it does is allow you to keep EVERYTHING that the normal computer controls like:

-speedo
-cruise control
-a/c
-torque converter lockup
-ESC (electronic spark control)

Here is a pic of the plug-n-play harness, it works for cars originally equipped with MAFS, let me know if you are interested:

Does your setup convert the car from MAFS to speed density? IS it a gen 7 version?
Thanx

JUST FOR SOFTWARE AND THE COMPUTER!

Yea, but thats with the wide band 02 sensor. And unfortunately I haven't found a piggy back that will work with a Gen 7 or a Wide Band.

i dont like the gen VII DFI

FAST is a better choice IMHO

you can get a piggy pack plug n play harness for them and also have the wideband for like $2500 total through www.fasttrackperfomance.com

it might even be lower

89ProchargedROC is right. I talked to fasttrack also. It will piggyback your factory harness and it is speedpro, not Accel DFI.

Would anyone happen to have the part# for the setup.....piggyback and speed-pro ecu. Now I just have to figure out how to get rid of the DFI. I've always heard the speed pro was easier but I heard it after I bought two of the DFI's. Thanks for any help. I'm assuming it would be easier to tune the twin turbo with the speed pro.

I just bought a used DFI setup for $500 including the main harness and injector harness. It has the programming cable, but not the software. Also, no manual. Anyone know where I could get a copy of the manual on the net?
