Windows ME and CM v8.5 datalogging software.

I am trying to use a friends HP Pavillion 5420 to run Craig Moates diagnostic software, but the CM doesn't like ME evidently. He makes some mention of this on his web page and how to get a DOS startup disk. I did this and the computer starts up fine w/ DOS, but won't recognize the c: drive. When we try to "DIR C:\" we get "The volume in that drive has no label" or something like that. When we type "c:\" to try to get a c:> prompt we get a "invalid drive specification" or some such thing. As a result we cannot even get the diagnostic software to run since DOS evidently can't see/recognize drive c:. Any insights, thoughts, suggestions, BFO's (Blinding Flash of the Obvious), would be appreciated.

Thanks, Bob

YOUR BOOT DISK DOESN'T SUPPORT NEWWER OS'S DOS (HAHAHA)V 8.0 FAT32 W/ CRUD... ON POST SCREEN ENTER BIOS SETUP F2 OR DEL . GOTO BOOT ORDER. SET CD->FLOP->HD. AND BOOT OFF YOUR CD CHOOSE #2 BOOT W/ CDROM SUPPORT . THEN GOTO HD.
OR load ME goto Cntrl pannel-> then add/remove proggies-> tab 3 startup disk create a real mode boot disk. Sorry bout the caps .
or format a floppy in a win98 machine w/ system files. then copy/ extract v85 to it as a folder and run it off the floppy

That boot disk link on my page should have a Win98 boot image also. Try that out...

craiger,
If you have winME dont worry about it. You can just install the software on the hard drive somewhere, then boot into dos from a floppy and then run the software. Thats what I do. Like it was mentioned above, you need to use a dos boot disk that can see fat32. You can make a dos boot disk with ME and use that, or you can get the win98 boot disk that there is a link for on craig moates website.

Thats the same problem I have. I can run the software on winME, but it never links up. I boot into dos with a win98 bootdisk and it links up fine.

You use a win 98 boot disk, and then go to dos from windows? I don't quite understand if you are booting straight to DOS, or to Win98, then using the MsDos shortcut. Thanks, Bob

When you use a 'Win98 Boot Disk', you will get a 'DOS Prompt'. From here you can access the program and have it work, and you can access FAT32 drives.

Use a Win98 boot disk, 'nuff said. It will all become clear to you as you proceed down this path...

ok great, thanks Craig. On another note about v8.5. When I am driving around with the software running on my 486 I have twice gotten "OVERLOAD" messages. When I type enter it sends me into the code. I am not logging when this has happened. If it happens again I will pay more attention to the situation. Just a FYI, thanks again,

Bob

Yep, I know about that problem. Working on getting it worked out. Thanks for the heads-up...
