Your chance to screw up MY engine :D

Hey guys,

Alright im soon coming up on the day I fire off my new engine, the cam is running 224/230 duration so naturally the prom needs a massage. So far I've disabled vats and egr, boosted both injector constants for single/double shot to 24lb/hr (lt1 injectors) and am running an ARAP base for spark. With a cam thats going to have some extra duration im going to need to raise the idle but there's quite a few places to do this, what direction do I take so that I can run my cam break in on this prom and not have to worry about if the proms going to be all fruity?

I'm thinking about an 800 idle warm is safe for the break in period, but what table do i change it in?

Thanks in advance

Sorry

I'm using winbin as well.

And i think i may found it... ?

Is "Idle RPM vs Coolant Temp" the most logical place?

You found it. You'll also want to lower the spark advance in the main table (and probably in the Power Enrichment (aka: WOT) tables too) in the high-load (LV8) areas. For a better idle with more vacuum, increase the timing in the area where your engine will be idling (low LV8/rpm). For example, I have an LT4 HOT cam (218/228) on my 11.1:1 compression 355, and I'm running 30 degrees total advance at idle up to 96 LV8 and 1000 rpm.

Sounds good...

Whats the LV8 based off of? it isn't a percentage obviously so whats the calculation for it?

Roughly, it's airflow divided by RPM and multiplied by some scalar factor(s). More airflow gives a higher LV8, and lower RPMs for a certain airflow also raises the LV8. It's basically the load on the engine. On a WOT dyno run, the curve for the LV8 will match that of the torque curve, while airflow will be pretty close to the horsepower curve.

Just a note you what to run the engine at 2000 rpm for about 20 mins. Then turn it off a let it set over night.

I'm aware of break in, the issue is properly breaking it in on a prom you're running for the very first time.

I dont want it to knock, or fans to not come on, etc etc

(btw only crane recommends as little as 20 min, most manufactures recommend 30 minute 2000-3000 operation then cool down, then road break in with no WOT for 500 miles)

I am in the same boat because I need a new PROM for my new motor. I did the break in with the stock programming and the car runs alright... but it could be better. The main thing I wanted to tune for on the first few burns was the Idle. At idle sometimes the car wants to die and sometimes its fine. Makes for hell when trying to make a left in heavy traffic and you aren't sure if the car is gonna die.

I am getting my equipment probably over the next 2 weeks or sooner. I had a few questions but this topic seems to be answering them nicely.

One question though I want to be sure of before I spend my $$$ is this, Does Craig Moates Software when installed on a Laptop and hooked to the ALDL port act as a scan tool? I think Yes right? If so I am working on that.
