My computer keeps asking me to select a file on my computer to open my downloads?????

I'm new to the PC world,
I have a Mac G4 with Virtual PC ( allows me to run PC programs on my Mac!)
My problem is when I download files such as "Craig's software" the computer ask me to select a program to open the file. WTF is that??? Why does'nt the computer know what to do?? cause I dont!!! LOL

In a Windoze environment ....
Windoze can select an application for you if it has
encountered the file type before and it has a
tag that it is familiar with.

"Craig's software" is likely to have a tag that looks like...
craig.exe
craig.gzip
craig.zip

or some such. You need to list the complete name of the file
as in the above and I can tell you what to do...

My files are:
1 arap.bin
2 6ev009.zip
3 tpi.pdf
when I try to open these files on my computer I'm asked what programs do i want to manually select to open the files.

Roughly...
1 arap.bin
I think this is data used by another program

2 6ev009.zip
This is a compressed file and is usually extracted by
a utility like Zip :-)

3 tpi.pdf
This is a document. It can be read by something like
Adobe Acrobat

Sooo...
Put these things in a folder someplace
Use the "right" mouse button to select 6ev009.zip
you will get a "dialogue box". Select "open with"
and you should get a selection of utilities.
Select "Zip" and the file will extract itself.

Do the same with the .pdf file only select
adobe acrobat. This should be the instructions.

Take a break, go to the bookstore and pick
up Windoze for dummies or some such...

Save the BIN file as a binary file. If Macs don't know what that is, try as Unformatted Text.

You need PKZip or WinZip to unzip a Zip file. Any shareware site will have them.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free download from Adobe.

My advice is to get a ~$35 - $50 laptop from eBay and install Windows on it. If the people on there are the same as the ones I bought mine from, they'll leave their Win95/98 on it...(Not to mention their pr0n shots, college application letters, and AOL password)...

Your right, I have a G4 mac! Ive also noticed that on some PC programs theirs a right click & left click on the mouse. Most Macs uses a double click to open & close files.

Errr I thought that what he said was...

"I have a Mac G4 with Virtual PC ( allows me to run PC programs on my Mac!) "

Which would imply running i386 Windoze via emulation. Which would imply some mechanism for for duplicating Microsoft conventions on the Mac.

Sorry its been a long time since I looked into emulation....
