Whats a good knock count?

What should I look for? The lower the better? I've ran three tests so for with a stock 87 bin, arap unchanged and a arap changed to reflect my bigger injectors. Stock bin was 28, arap 43 and arap changed 38. The counts on all three stay the same thoroughout and no knock retard.

Zero is what you are looking for. Although you may not be looking at the scanner when the knock occures, there is still retard taking place. It will go back to zero once the knock stops. If you are able to log the data, take it home and bring it up in Excel and then you will see just how much retard your getting.

I have been going round and round with knock counts and finally last night I got it taken care of. WOT with no knock! WOW what a difference in power. Now first gear is a total waste. Not a bad thing.

The stock ARAP has way too much timing in my opinion. Start backing it down and once the knock stops, then search for best performance there and down.

Grumpy writes MANY great articles/posts on timing. Do a search and become enlightened!

Good luck!

Yes, and Yes.
But so many of the underlaying stuff is so good on the ARAP it would take along time to take another one, and be so balanced, especially for the new guys.

I have a question reguarding knock counts. Maybe i should post this as topic? Why do i get knock counts when my BLM's are @ 128? Is my timming to far advanced and need to be decreased at the point of the knock count?

Yes.
Because BLM's are only fuel, they have nothing to do with spark but spark has some influence on the burning propeties of the fuel so you need to adjust timing until no spark and then look at the BLMs at that pressure/rpm to verify that it hasn't made too much of a difference.
Yes, take out some timing IF the knock counts are increasing and noticable. Ignore the counts on startup because that's the starting. If you can count 1 second, 1 count, 2 seconds, another knock count, 3 seconds, and yet another, then there is detonation.
Remember to datalog and look at the specific location where the knock is occuring, not just that it's happening. Oh yeah, and try higher octane fuel if you've taken a bunch out of the timing and still getting knock.

So what is the best way to pull the timming out? Should i decrease the timming in the cells where the detonation is occuring or should i decrease the whole timming table in small amounts until i see the knock counts go by by?

I'm going to lower my overall to 29* and try it. My arap changed is flowing more maf grams/sec but doesn't feel right and sound right either. My blms show 126-128 though, except for cell one which is 108. I've been printing my data out to examine it which helps a lot, and have noticed no knock retard and all my knock counts are the same, they never change at all, which I think is good.

When i hit WOT my knock counts are like 45 and sometimes higher.

I guess it means that I have to work on my Spark table. I have not touched it yet.

Unless i have a different problem.

I took the differance between the arap and the stock 89 bin in the spark table, divided that in half and subtracted it from the arap, basically i have a spark table that is between the stock and arap bin. My knocks dropped ever so slightly (37's) and blms are now slightly rich (124's). I'm going to try the 89 table in the arap and see what that does. If it doesn't do anything then it could be a fuel problem. Or both
