Thats It I've Had It!
Ok, I am fed up. I am having major problems. These are newbie questions but I have gone over all of the intro articles numerous times.
Here is the problem. I can erase the EPROM's but hen I erase them, I place them in the PP2 and verify that they are erased. The thing is, sometimes they are erased when you put it in one way and not erased when you put it in the opposite way.
Question #1: WHY?
Then I have another problem, the PP2 specifically shows the way the EPROM should be facing while sitting in the programmer by the little tab in the illustration.
Question #2: Why can I program the chip while it faces the way of the illustration, verify it, and check to ensure it cannot be reprogrammed, yet have the PP2 software tell me it can be reprogrammed?
Question #3: Why can I place the chip in the PP2 facing the opposite way of the tab in the illustration and program it, verify it, and then check to see if it can be reprogrammed and the PP2 software says it CANNOT be?
I need answers and I need them quickly. Thanks in advance!!! :hail:

Uh, PROMs only go into the programmer one way. You may have toasted them and/or the programmer playing around like that.
Just do it the way the instructions say and run the chip in the car. If you have real, actual problems, try new undamaged chips.

kevinc, thats exactly what I thought too....
Here is what I did. Yesterday I fixed my TPS problem. My TPS appeared to have gone bad. So I replaced it and set it to .54V like it should have been. Then I did the IAC. The car idled and drove fine. At the time I had a stock bin in the car. Today I decided that I was gonna put the arap.bin back in so I could begin the tuning process since I had the mechanical bugs worked out.
The car didn't like the arap.bin
So I plugged the stock bion back in and it hasn't ran correctly since then. No matter what I do it will not even idle. The car searches for an idle, the TPS is set to .54V the IAC is set correctly. I am at a loss. The car will operate for a few seconds in gear but then its as if the fuel or spark is cut drastically. It will stay at a certain RPM in cruise for lets say 5 seconds then it will almost stall. The RPM's come back up then it almost stalls again..... I hadn't changed the chips as of this morning. Since then I tried 2 reburns.
I'm at a loss.

Another question. Why is it that EVENTHOUGH I don't even have a chip plugged into the PP2 I hit blank check and it tells me the device is NOT Erased. What device!?!? There isn't anything in there. Do I have to clear the buffer somehow???

WOW.. it sounds like you are thinking to much!!
Q1. When the chips are put in correctly it says that they are erased and can be programmed. Whats wrong with that... if you turn the chips around they are in the programmer wrong and you shouldn't be able to program them.
Q2 & Q3. If you are using EEPROMs then they can be reprogrammed on top of themselves. If they are in backwards they are not installed correctly... so they can't be reprogrammed. I think there is one pin that tells the chip to 'erase' itself when being programemd so that will be in the wrong spot in the programmer.
Now why did you even think of putting the chips in backwards?
As far as having the programmer saying that the device isn't erased when there is no chip in there... well that also tells you that you can't program the chip the way it is. So if there is no chip in there, THEN IT CAN NOT BE PROGRAMMED!! It helps if you accidently put in the chip without locking it in place.
If your car has any work done to it then it may have to relearn how to idle if you disconnect the power to the ECU. Mine always runs like crap after I reconnect the battery... give it some time to learn if this is the case.
Maybe the IAC has to be cleaned!?
And I second the fact that the chips may have been toasted when you put them in backwards. Also, if they are EPROMs and you left them in the eraser for too long then that could damage them too.

How will the car react to a chip that has been ruined?

As of right now I don't have any SES lights being set at all. The car simply idles like crap. Spits and sputters at about 500 rpm EVENTHOUGH I set the idle at 750 yesterday.
Normally you start the car and the idle jumps to 12-1500 rpm and then idles down... well my car won't even hit 1000 rpm and it immediately goes right down to 500.....immediately.
Any ideas?
EDIT: I just unplugged my IAC and it seems to run better. Not good but better.

You are definitely having IAC problems. Mine is currently pissing me off right now so I opened up the blades a little and that solved my problems. I know you're not supposed to idle off the blades so thats just temp fix till you figure out what's really wrong.
