Code 41 after burn
Okay. I de-soldered the prom from my memcal, saved it, and burned it onto a flash prom. Now my ecm flashes code 41 (wrong memcal). Also, it only flashes that when the prom is in backwards. If I put the prom in the correct way it doesn't fire at all.
To try something I put the original prom in the zif and had the same results. WTH?

Why couldn't this be as easy as it looks

One more possibility.....which chip do I choose from the list off of pp2 that i'm burning from? there are a couple with my numbers.

You want to select "27c256" is you are burning a prom. Don't select anything else. Also when you are done burning your chip do a “verify” on it.

Okay. This is what I did just now. I pulled the info off the prom using 27c256 (not national or any of the other variations). I saved it and then burned it onto my flash prom using at29c256. I still have the same problem. Code 41 and the car runs like @$$.
I didn't have this problem with the chip soldered to the carrier and everything hooked up through the cm adapter.
Could I have messed something up while unsoldering the prom? Is something wrong with the adapter? PP2?
This is driving me up the wall. I'm running out of racing season and can't seem to get my car out of the garage. My goal for the year was 13's. Help a poor boy reach his goal????

Have you checked the connectivity through the ZIF socket?? You may have a bad solder connection or your orignal eprom is fried from too much heat during desoldering. I would take an ohm meter and ohm each connection through the entire memcal to make sure you have good continuity.

I ohmed out the whole memcal using the holes that plug it into the ecm. I got zilch. Not a single flicker of anything on my dvm. Did I measure the wrong place or is my memcal fried?
I'm leaning towards a fried memcal. I found out there's a copper type foil in the memcal that's easily destroyed. Maybe that's my problem. I'm hoping someone here can tell me that's not my problem so I can save myself 50 bucks for a new memcal.

Well, maybe you did damage the PROM while taking it out and corrupted the BIN. GO to diy-efi.org and get the BIN you have and burn it and try.

I've already done that. It runs the same regardless me using the internet bin or the bin i pull off the prom. Consequently I believe the prom itself is okay. I'm calling into question the memcal or the adapter.

update
I have no idea what the heck happened. I put the factory prom back on the memcal, hooked up the adapter and used the bin from diy and for some reason IT WORKS!!!
Nothing is different from before I removed the stock prom yet now it runs fine, i get no code 41, and the SES is off.
This is screwy. I think I have gremlins.
Thanks for the help all.
