Two Transistor Type cable and 730 ECM

I've now built two of these cables...thinking maybe I burnt up something while building the first.

Neither cable would work with Moates software or with Datamaster. I'm connecting data to pin M, power pin F, and ground to pin A.

What's going on here? Do I need to change baud rates? If so, where do I start?

I just made a third cable and it does not work either!!! Thinking maybe my laptop has issues with the COM port (I don't think it does), I carried out the desktop to hook it up. Same problem. I can not get the 2 transistor cable to work with any software and with any PC.

Am I missing something here? I'm half-tempted to buy a $100 cable...but I'll be furious if I buy it and it doesn't work either!

I have been battling with the same problem, just today I figured it out. I built several cables with no luck, so I figured it had to be the laptop. I am running Windows 95. I went into my control panel, went to system, Device manager, selected Com port 1. Went to port settings and put the Flow control to Hardware. I am also running Moates and am using the two transistor cable, After screwing around with it for a month this finally worked so try it out, Hopefully it will work for you.

I'm headed down to the garage to try that right now! I'll let you know.

I'm currently living near Cleveland. However, I may be moving back to Pennsylvania....not sure if I'll bring my truck back to Ohio.

Cool, I live in Cleveland right now. I woul d likr to see your S10, I have an 89 with a 355 in it. It is one of those projects I will never be able to say I am done with. I put too big of a cam in and it really runs sh**y so I haven't messed with it for a while.

No luck changing those settings for the COM port. I messed around with a lot of settings with no luck.

Do you mind if I swing by your place sometime soon (maybe some evening this week) with my laptop and try out your cable with your vehicle to see if my laptop is the culprit? If I can get my laptop to work with a cable that is known to work, then I'll know that my cable is bad...after making three cables, I'm beginning to think it's not the cables...but who knows.

I live on the East side of Cleveland. I have my truck at my dad's garage in Pennsylvania right now. I won't be taking it anywhere until I get it tuned...it's not really drivable right now.
