ALDL pins: E & M common?
I have an auto-xray plug which I've hacked and have put each wire lead coming from the cable to a different pin of a DB9 connector.
My plan is to make individual plugs with circuitry for:
-WinALDL
-Moates
and have them both plug into this same DB9 connector coming from the auto-xray plug.
so far I have made the easier one, the WinALDL plug.
I am currently making the Moates plug.
For the Moates connectors will I run into any problems with the E & M pins of the ALDL being common from the connector? They are joined inside the auto-xray cable.

Having E+M tied together shouldn't be a problem.
I haven't been able to ever run two devices off of the ALDL. Maybe you can, but if it don't work, don't be surpised.

Thanks for the quick reply grumpy
I should clarify though
I'm not going to ever try running two diagnostics at once, just make it so the 1 plug i have is interchangeable so i can use both programs according to the car i'm diagnosing

jim -
just curious, you list your TA as an '89. why does it have the vents behind the fron tires? thought this was an '87 thing. did you swap fenders?

Side fender vents were available on just about every TA made from 85-90 to my knowledge. So far every one I've come across backs this up.

Can we get a third opinion? b/c the more I think about it the surer I am getting about the fact, now I'm really curious as to the actual answer.

go to google.com and do an *image* search on 1989 trans am or 89 trans am for more.

Magnus, just about every one of the pictures there are GTAs, not TAs, GTAs didn't come with the fender vents, they were usually deleted when you ordered a GTA. although I'm sure there were a few exceptions to the rule.
EDIT: same thing for 89 TTAs, they were more a GTA derivative then not

ok, now as a reward, I will answer your question:
I have exactly the setup you speak of. I have my auto-xray cable pigtailed with the serial cable for my computer adapter (from steve ruse), which as you say as E and M together.
Absolutely no problems at all. You'll be fine with this.
Good luck!
