I've had this problem before and Ive finally narrowed down the cause. Whenever I remove the chip, after I put it back in the car won't start. Like last night for instance. Car has been running fine for a week now. I decided to change the chip b/c I had made some changes. Well, I pull it out and put the new one in and it won't start. So I put the first one back in and still nothing. It cranks and cranks and cranks but no start. Why?

On your changes did you disable VATS?
Make sure all the pis are making contact in the ZIF socket.
Are you even using a ZIF socket?

Yes, the VATS is turned off. I'm using the Craig Moates adapter/ZIF socket too so I'm pretty sure that's all good. Like I said, the only thing I did was pull one chip and put another in. Nothing else. I even tried disconnecting the battery to clear the memory. Any ideas?

Are you saying you didn't disconnect the battery BEFORE you put it in? I could be wrong...but I think that is a major no-no

I honestly have no idea . I went out on Sunday to work on it and the battery was dead, so I jump started it and it fired up after a little convincing. I guess after all the PROM changes the computer was so confused that it took the battery to go completely dead to clear the memory. I dunno I' m just glad that it runs now.

Yes, and very frustrating. Since the incident I've swapped the chip numerous times with no ill effect. I don't know what was up!
